We are seeking a Process Automation Engineer who will support our manufacturing operations by improving automation systems, production processes, mechanical tooling, and equipment reliability. This role works across cobots, PLC controls, SCADA platforms, relay logic, Solid Works-based fixture design, facility automation, and technical documentation. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver who can work with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to troubleshoot issues, improve process consistency, and implement practical automation and mechanical solutions.
This role is on-site, 5 days a week. Remote option is not available.
We are looking for qualified candidates in the Ennis, TX market.
Essential Functions
- Support and improve manufacturing processes that use collaborative robots to produce parts.
- Assist with PLC-controlled equipment, including troubleshooting, I/O checks, sensors, interlocks, and control sequence issues.
- Build, support, and improve SCADA platforms used for equipment monitoring, alarms, production visibility, and process data.
- Troubleshoot relay logic, control panels, wiring, switches, sensors, and related electrical control devices.
- Integrate automation for facility lighting, energy management, and other production support systems.
- Use Solid Works to design and modify fixtures, tooling, brackets, assemblies, and mechanical production aids.
- Improve manufacturing processes through better tooling, automation, documentation, workflow, and equipment support.
- Establish paper work instructions, video work instructions, standard procedures, and troubleshooting guides to promote consistent manufacturing practices.
- Use AI-assisted tools to support troubleshooting, documentation, root-cause analysis, and manufacturing process improvement.
- Troubleshoot equipment, controls, sensors, interlocks, relay logic, wiring, and control panels to support active manufacturing operations.
- Develop and improve SCADA/HMI screens, alarms, dashboards, monitoring points, and process data visibility tools.
- Design, revise, and release fixtures, tooling, brackets, assemblies, and production aids using Solid Works or similar CAD tools.
- Partner with production, maintenance, engineering, and supervisors to identify root causes, reduce downtime, and improve process consistency.
- Create and maintain paper work instructions, video work instructions, standard procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Support facility automation projects such as lighting automation, energy management, and production support systems.
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Automation, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology, Robotics, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field preferred.
Equivalent hands-on manufacturing, controls, maintenance, or automation experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Experience
Less than 3 years of experience in manufacturing, automation, controls, process engineering, maintenance, robotics, or mechanical design preferred.
Relevant coursework, internships, co-op experience, technical projects, or hands-on lab experience involving PLCs, robotics, CAD/Solid Works, electrical controls, manufacturing processes, fixtures/tooling, or technical documentation
Candidates should show practical exposure to at least one or two of the following: PLCs, robotics/cobots, SCADA/HMI, electrical troubleshooting, CAD/Solid Works, manufacturing processes, fixtures/tooling, or technical documentation.
Skills
- Ability to use Solid Works or similar CAD software for fixture, tooling, or mechanical design.
- Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, controls, and process-related issues.
- Ability to write clear work instructions, procedures, and training documentation.
- Comfortable working on the production floor and supporting active manufacturing operations.
- Familiarity with electrical drawings, ladder logic, schematics, and wiring diagrams preferred.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing, standard work, root-cause analysis, or continuous improvement preferred.
- Experience using AI tools for troubleshooting, documentation, technical research, or process support preferred.
- Proficient understanding of MS Office Software (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook), Autocad
- Ability to learn new programs as needed.
- Must be able to collaborate effectively with operators, technicians, engineers, maintenance partners, and supervisors.
- Must be able to support production equipment, control systems, cobots, fixtures, tooling, and facility automation systems in office and manufacturing-floor environments.
