Position Summary

The Shipping Team Lead oversees daily shipping operations on the assigned shift and serves as the first line of leadership for the shipping team. The Lead coordinates work assignments, supports loading and staging activities, and ensures the safe, accurate, and on-time shipment of finished goods. This is a working leader position: the Lead is expected to perform the duties of team members when needed while guiding their work, partnering closely with the Shipping Supervisor, and fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability.

Operations
  • Manage the dock independently for most of the shift, including coordinating loads, paperwork, and physical material handling.
  • Perform the duties of stagers, loaders, and other team members as required, including individual case picking.
  • Set up loader paperwork and confirm shipping documentation is accurate and complete.
  • Use ERP and other shipping software for day-to-day operational tasks.
  • Monitor open orders, production schedules, and shipping paperwork to proactively resolve delays, shortages, or errors.
  • Investigate and correct issues with missing products, shipping errors, or damaged goods.
  • Maintain a clean, organized shipping area and enforce housekeeping standards.
  • Perform quality checks and confirm shipments meet company standards and customer requirements.
Leadership & Teamwork
  • Communicate work assignments to shipping employees and adjust as conditions change throughout the shift.
  • Assign tasks, split workloads, and follow up to ensure timely completion.
  • Carry out supervisor directives and act as point of contact for shipping concerns during the shift.
  • Train new hires on job duties, procedures, and safe equipment operation.
  • Fill in for call-offs and vacations as required.
  • Cover portions of the Supervisor’s role with support from other supervisors when needed.
  • Serve as a product- and process-knowledge resource for team members.
Safety & Compliance
  • Complete the daily safety checklist and ensure team members follow all safety procedures.
  • Perform and verify LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) procedures are followed.
  • Report near-misses, accidents, and safety concerns promptly.
  • Maintain perfect attendance — no points, call-offs, or tardiness.
  • Comply with the dress code policy at all times.
  • Arrive before the shift starts and remain until the shift ends.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED), or a minimum of 3 years of shipping or warehouse experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Prior leadership exposure, or demonstrated readiness to step into a leadership role.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend work instructions in English.
  • Basic math skills, including fractions; ability to use a tape measure accurately to 1/16 of an inch.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and the company’s ERP system.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift/move 20–50 lbs, and work in a hot, fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
  • Safety-conscious mindset with demonstrated ability to follow and model safety standards.
  • Commitment to teamwork, diversity, and continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing assembly or distribution environment.
  • In 2022, AMI introduced our composite cladding system, a first-of-its-kind solution.
