Position Overview
The Crane Field Service Technician is responsible for performing diagnostics, repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance on mobile cranes, tower cranes, and lifting equipment at customer job sites and company facilities. This role requires strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting skills, the ability to work independently in the field, and a commitment to delivering safe, high‑quality service.
Key Responsibilities- Perform field diagnostics and repairs on hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical crane systems, including booms, winches, engines, control systems, outriggers, and load‑moment indicators.
- Conduct inspections, document findings, and recommend corrective actions.
- Troubleshoot complex issues using OEM software, schematics, service manuals, and diagnostic tools.
- Complete preventive maintenance including lubrication, adjustments, filter changes, torque checks, and functional testing.
- Respond to emergency service calls and support projects with downtime‑critical repairs.
- Install and calibrate crane safety systems, sensors, and electronic components.
- Perform load testing and assist with commissioning new or rebuilt cranes.
- Maintain accurate service documentation, including work orders, parts usage, inspection reports, and field notes.
- Communicate effectively with site personnel, providing clear explanations of issues, repair options, and timelines.
- Follow all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout, rigging best practices, and site‑specific requirements.
- Collaborate with parts and service providers to ensure timely completion of repairs.
- 5+ years of experience in heavy equipment, crane service, or hydraulic systems.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulics, diesel engines, electrical systems, CAN‑bus, and load‑moment indicators.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and hydraulic flow charts.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work at heights, in outdoor environments, and around active construction operations.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- OEM certifications (Grove, Tadano, Liebherr, Manitowoc, Terex, Link‑Belt).
- NCCCO or equivalent crane/rigging certifications.
- Welding or fabrication experience.
Frequent travel to project sites, including highway and bridge projects, industrial plants, refineries, ports, and construction projects.
Professional communication and customer‑service mindset.
