Overview

Are you interested in supporting migrants and refugees in their integration into Dutch society? As a Volunteer Companion with Samen Actief, you will help participants become more self‑reliant and gain confidence.

• Visit your participant once a week.
• Support the participant with their questions, such as understanding letters and navigating Dutch systems (education, work, care, etc.).
• Accompany the participant to appointments when necessary.
• Help the participant find and explore local facilities.
• Offer a listening ear and emotional support.

• Interest in helping people and ability to communicate with respect and equality.
• Patience and good communication skills.
• Proficiency in Dutch and at least one other language (English, Arabic, Tigrinya, Farsi, or Turkish).

• Basic training – partly online and in group sessions with new volunteers.
• Requirement for a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG).
• Participation in a collective insurance for accidents and wet work.
• Reimbursement of travel costs according to Humanitas guidelines.
• Ongoing support and coordination from the coordinator during contact.
• Informal, educational, and reflective meetings with fellow volunteers.
