The Member Service Staff is responsible for welcoming members and guests into the facility, answering and transferring calls, inputting information into the computer, and communicating policy and program information to visitors at the desk. In addition, every position in the YMCA of Greater Montgomery is responsible for upholding the Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the four pillars of character — caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Greet members by name and visitors in a positive, professional manner as a representative of the YMCA; ensure the security of the facility by enforcing visitor policy.
- Handle and resolve member concerns.
- Answer the telephone promptly and courteously—adhering to the three‑ring rule.
- Ensure no caller is kept on hold for more than 30 seconds without personal contact.
- Provide all necessary information on phone messages taken and give accurate information to callers.
- Process member sign‑ups and program registrations correctly and in a timely manner.
- Enter receipt information accurately for membership and programs.
- Be accountable for all money collected during the shift; money and receipt totals must match.
- Perform routine filing and copying as needed.
- Execute facility access‑control duties by scanning member cards and entering visitors into the computer program.
- Maintain a clean, professional appearance for self and the facility. Wear staff shirt and nametag; acceptable attire includes shorts and skirts of moderate length—no blue jeans.
- Understand and be able to apply emergency procedures.
- Open and/or secure the building at the close of business as necessary.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must be at least 18 years old, multi‑task oriented, and have basic computer skills. Education and/or ExperienceHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsCurrent CPR/AED certification or must certify within 30 days of employment. Must complete YMCA Safety Trainings within 14 days of employment.
