Position Overview

The welding instructor prepares course syllabi and instructional materials, delivers instruction in both a classroom and laboratory setting, and evaluates student progress. This is a full‑time position that may include day and/or night classes. Travel may be required to instructional sites. The position will be based at both the Enterprise and Geneva campuses, depending on need.

Responsibilities
  • Prepares course syllabi and instructional materials, delivers instruction, and evaluates and records student progress.
  • Conducts instruction in a wide variety of settings and time frames, including day and evening at any instructional site.
  • Employs appropriate teaching strategies in classroom and laboratory settings.
  • Organizes and maintains instructional equipment as required.
  • Explains, demonstrates, and ensures the safe use of tools, materials, and equipment in classroom and laboratory settings.
  • Evaluates and advises College administration regarding textbooks and other instructional materials relevant to the area of instruction.
  • Orders required materials using established procedures.
  • Advises students on class schedules and coursework for degree plan completion.
  • Schedules and maintains office hours for student assistance.
  • Promotes leadership and enrichment experiences through student organizations and/or other activities.
  • Remains current on technological and employment trends pertinent to the area of instruction.
  • Maintains current industry certifications as required.
  • Interacts with representatives from the welding industry and agencies.
  • Participates in College meetings, College committees, and professional development activities.
  • Participates in curriculum development, evaluation, and revision.
  • Recruits students for the program.
  • Participates in the College’s planning process.
  • Works with the Dean of Instruction and Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Planning to develop, collect, analyze, and evaluate Student Learning Outcome (SLO) data.
  • May be assigned as program lead by the Dean of Instruction, coordinating across multiple instructional sites to ensure continuity and quality in instruction, standardizing content, and streamlining equipment purchasing.
  • Supports the college mission.
  • Complies with all policies of the Alabama Community College System and the College.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands

Regularly required to stand for long periods of time, walk, sit, smell, talk, and hear. Must use hands to finger, handle, or feel; crouch, stoop, kneel, and bend; and reach with hands and arms. Must have mobility to move on‑and off‑campus. Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds. Requires close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus vision.

Required Qualifications
  • A minimum of a high school diploma with six years of full‑time welding experience, OR an associate’s degree or equivalent and three years of full‑time welding experience.
  • Ability to obtain relevant industry certifications in welding including NC3 Lincoln and AWS.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in Welding or related field.
  • Secondary or post‑secondary teaching experience.
  • Experience with online learning.
  • Professional industry certifications.
Salary

Salary Schedule D1: $42,108 – $94,363 (9‑month salary) and $13,001 – $29,184 (3‑month summer salary) based on Alabama Community College System Salary Schedule and dependent upon education and experience. This is an institutionally funded position.
