Mechatronics Instructor
Instructs students in theory, laboratory, and online topics in the Mechatronics field of study. Instructs students in laboratory procedures and exercises and assists in evaluation of student performance metrics and determination of student proficiency. Requires knowledge of a body of information including the basics of electronics, mechanics, programmable logic controllers, motors, safety, manufacturing, process control, instrumentation, automation, robotics, hydraulics, pneumatics, precision measurement, CNC, and Industry 4.0. The employee uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments independently, but refers deviations, problems, and unfamiliar situations to the division chair for decision or guidance.
Assists with course development and continual improvement of the program as necessary. The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, or reaching; and other activities requiring above average agility and dexterity. The work environment involves moderate risks requiring special safety precautions, such as working around moving parts or machines, high voltage, and possibly irritant chemicals, and may require the use of personal protective equipment.
Requires flexibility in scheduled work hours, as instructor schedules change every 8 weeks during the fall and spring terms, and at the beginning of the summer term. Work hours are typically between 7am and 8pm Monday - Thursday, but some Fridays and weekends may be required for special events or circumstances. These hours are subject to change based on growth and expansion of the program.
Mechatronics instructors work 35-40 hours per week on campus and will be in contact with students 20-30 hours per week depending on other assigned duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities INSTRUCTOR
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepares course syllabi and instructional materials, delivers instruction, and evaluates and records student progress in assigned coursesConducts instruction in a wide variety of settings and time frames to include day and evening at any instructional siteEmploys appropriate teaching strategies in classroom and laboratory settingsOrganizes and maintains instructional equipment as requiredExplains, demonstrates, and ensures the safe use of tools, materials, and equipment in classroom and laboratory settingsEvaluates and advises College administration regarding textbooks and other instructional materials pertinent to the area of instructionOrders required materials using established proceduresAdvises students on class schedules and coursework for degree plan completionSchedules and maintains office hours for student assistancePromotes leadership and enrichment experiences through student organizations and/or other activitiesRemains current on technological and employment trends pertinent to area of instructionMaintains current industry certifications as requiredInteracts with representatives from industry and agenciesParticipates in College meetings, College committees, and professional development activitiesParticipates in curriculum development, evaluation, and revisionRecruits students for the programParticipates in the College's planning processWorks with the Dean of Instruction and Associate Dean of Administrative Services to develop, collect, analyze, and evaluate Student Learning Outcome (SLO) dataSupports college missionComplies with all policies of the Alabama Community College System and the CollegePerforms other duties as assignedMECHATRONICS
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Mechatronics instructors may be assigned to teach any combination of theory, online, or laboratory content by the Division Chair. Mechatronics instructors may be assigned as an instructor of record by the Division Chair after a period of time and demonstration of expertise in content and instructional ability. Assist instructor of record (if not assigned) in weekly assessment of student progressInspect student work in progress and sign off on completion of student lab activitiesAssist with midterm and final practical examsProvide input to instructor of record (if not assigned) for calculation of student lab gradesDistributes tools, equipment, and supplies to students and ensures they are returned in working order following each lab activityReceive and interpret lesson plan, directives, or other information regarding curriculum, lab activities, and demonstrationsPerform lab assignments in advance of classes to ensure all materials are accounted for, lab procedure can be followed as intended, and ensure ability to teach labs with detailed explanation and answer student questionsAssemble and set up equipment, supplies, tools, and other materials as neededProvide guidance, advice, and instructional assistance to support student success, including providing tutoring in the subjects taught, basic mathematics, and reading…
