Position: Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Adjunct Instructor

Under the guidance of the EMS Program Director, the EMS adjunct instructor will prepare course materials, deliver instruction and evaluate student progress according to college and regulatory agencies. In addition to teaching paramedic courses, the adjunct instructor’s duties may also include teaching both basic and advanced EMT courses as well as assisting in coordination of the didactic, lab, clinical and/or field internship instruction.

Responsibilities
  • Provides classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction and evaluation of Paramedic and Emergency Medical Technician students.
  • Assists with development of continuing education courses for EMTs, paramedics, nurses and physicians.
  • Conducts CPR and first aid training courses.
  • Assists with the development of courses for use by the Alabama Department of Public Health/EMS Division.
  • Assists in the direction and supervision of EMS programs and personnel, including adjunct faculty and EMS clinical coordination.
  • Possesses and maintains expertise in the subject matter, applies relevant research, best‑practices and advancements relating to the EMS field, and incorporates results into the various training programs.
  • Evaluates student progress at frequent intervals using a variety of methods including tests and skills demonstrations.
  • Advises students on class schedules and coursework for degree plan completion.
  • Schedules and maintains office hours for student assistance.
  • Maintains current licensures and certifications as required.
  • Participates in College meetings, College committees, and in‑service activities.
  • Works a flexible schedule which may include nights and local travel.
  • Maintains a positive working relationship with members of local, state, and federal safety agencies as well as College staff and the community.
  • Maintains contact within the EMS community to facilitate recruitment of new students and instructors.
  • Actively participates in recruiting visits to area high schools and career days.
  • Assists the program director throughout the accreditation process.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Current paramedic certification issued by a nationally recognized EMS industry organization.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ field‑level provider experience in emergency medicine/prehospital care.
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience in EMS education.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Salary: $600 per Theory Hour / $790 per Lab Hour.

Course Days/Time:
Courses are available throughout the week, at a variety of times during the day and evening, on our campuses and sites. Distance Education and Dual Enrollment courses are also offered.

Term/Length:
Fall/Spring Semester – approximately 15 weeks;
Summer Semester – approximately 10 weeks.
