Job Title – School Psychometrist

Job Goals:
To provide effective psychometry services and programs for students of the school system.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Alabama teaching certificate. Certification as a school psychometrist or related field qualified to conduct individual intelligence and achievement tests.
  • Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. .
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Ability to provide or have access to appropriate transportation to perform job responsibilities at various school sites or other settings as required.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a productive team member.
  • Ability to use technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information.
  • Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities.
  • Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may require.

Performance Responsibilities and

Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.
  • Maintains and submits weekly log of student referrals.
  • Assesses referred students through appropriate test selection.
  • Administers tests for initial referrals and reevaluations.
  • Determines needed follow-up with students, parents, and/or faculty.
  • Interprets and integrates referral information and evaluation results into a comprehensive report.
  • Enters eligibility information into the Alabama State Department of Education Database.
  • Attends referral meetings on individual students as needed.
  • Attends eligibility meetings on individual students.
  • Interprets the school psychological services to students, teachers, parents/guardians and administrators.
  • Confers with resource consultants, supervisor, coordinator, teachers and parents/guardians.
  • Conducts interview with parents of for specific exceptionalities.
  • Track data on timeline/reevaluation due dates for the Alabama State Department of Education.
  • Monitors student reevaluations.
  • Assists with compliance verification on transfers, reevaluations, and initial referrals.
  • Attend staff meetings, workshops, and professional organization meetings for staff development.
  • Assists with summer referrals to eligibility tasks.
  • Assists in maintaining files.
  • Confers with attorneys on due process cases as requested.
  • Develops and conducts in-service programs on new or updated assessments, evaluations, timelines, reevaluations, and other areas as needed.
  • Keeps informed regarding research in psychological and educational testing practices in the areas of test construction, test administration and test results interpretation.
  • Works with outside agencies to assist in providing appropriate assessments, placements and transition services.
  • Supervises and evaluates staff assigned in accordance with school system procedures and schedules.
  • Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding /student/school/workplace matters.
  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
  • Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.
  • Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.
  • Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Properly uses and cares for equipment and material resources of the school system and effectively supervises and monitors students in the care, maintenance, and use of tools, equipment, and inventory.
