Job Goals:
- To provide high quality comprehensive counseling and guidance programs for career and technical education students.
- To provide consultative and collaborative services to teachers, parents, administrators and staff to support academic achievement and school/career success for all students.
- To help students make career choices, post-secondary educational choices, and positive life choices that will lead to meaningful, successful, and rewarding work.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree or higher from an accredited university.
- Valid Alabama certificate in counseling.
- Three (3) years of successful teaching experience.
- Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 202-457.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Demonstrates proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to develop and evaluate curriculum and programming specific to the needs of students.
- Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups, including, but not limited to students, faculty, staff, parents, and community members.
- Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member.
- Ability to use technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information.
- Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities.
- Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may require.
Performance Responsibilities and
Essential Functions:
- Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.
- Disseminates information regarding career and technical education and career opportunities.
- Provides career and technical education and information to students seeking a career objective that may or may not include plans to pursue postsecondary education.
- Provides orientation to incoming high school students concerning career and technical education course offerings/career and technical education pathways/career academies.
- Utilizes technology to plan and provide instruction and facilitate student learning.
- Models appropriate and innovative use of technology for students and staff.
- Keeps abreast of current changing job-entry skill requirements and changing technologies in business and industry.
- Informs local business and industry of career and technical education programs in the schools, and seeks information regarding their job requirements.
- Meets with representatives of career and technical education programs in the schools and seeks information regarding their job requirements.
- Cooperates with business and industry on job references of former students.
- Arranges for business and industry representatives to interview graduates as prospective employees.
- Maintains a file of catalogs, school profiles, and scholarship aid information related to schools, colleges, and institutions.
- Selects, administers, and interprets standardized tests to assist students in making appropriate career choices.
- Seeks internships, apprenticeships, and placement opportunities for CTE students.
- Assists students with post-secondary applications and scholarships.
- Maintains adequate cumulative records on students in career and technical classes.
- Assists in the individual career and technical education counseling of students.
- Assists other counselors and workforce coaches in matters pertaining to job requirements, technical schools, and technical opportunities.
- Gathers and publicizes information from the community regarding jobs available to all students.
- Interprets and communicates career and technical education data to the community.
- Prepares follow-up studies of former students in career and technical education for the purpose of improving services and evaluating the effectiveness of career and technical education and as required by the State Department of Education.
