Highway Maintenance Coordinator – Transportation Maintenance Coordinator
Responsibilities- Plan, prioritize, and assign work based on availability of materials, equipment, and staff resources.
- Monitor and inspect work activities for compliance with permit specifications, safety guidelines, and performance expectations.
- Train employees on proper time reporting, personal injury or vehicle accident reporting, and compliance with equipment, material, and environmental safety guidelines.
- Investigate accidents, complete worker compensation claim forms, and coordinate return of workers.
- Assist the manager with employee scheduling, appraisals, new hires, and onboarding.
- Prepare and review payroll reports, timecards, daily work activities, accident reports, and expense and per diem reports.
- Develop work plans for projects and implement the most suitable work methods.
- Ensure appropriate material and equipment is available at job sites and coordinate purchases.
- Inspect section highways and structures for potential accidents, hazards, or damage.
- Respond to vehicle crashes or other roadway emergencies, control traffic, gather and record data, notify appropriate public safety units, and arrange for staff and equipment.
- Work in conditions exposed to noise, extreme heights, adverse weather, heavy equipment, pesticides, and hazardous waste materials.
- Move around rough terrain, on uneven slopes, and lift up to 60 pounds as required.
- Be available after hours, on weekends and holidays for emergency, on‑call, and weather‑related purposes.
- Three (3) years of maintenance or construction experience in roadway, highway, bridge, sign, drawbridge, or landscape.
- Comprehensive and equitable base salary offer within the listed range.
- Maximum 30‑minute response time to 715 Gold Course Road, Enterprise, OR 97828 for emergency call‑outs.
- Current, valid commercial driver’s license A (CDL‑A) with a tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions, no 5th wheel restrictions, and no manual transmission restrictions; or ability to acquire a class A commercial learner permit within 60 days of hire and a CDL‑A with a tanker endorsement and restrictions removed within six months of hire.
- A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record.
- Pre‑employment driving record checks, including FMCSA Clearinghouse registration and a full query check for the final candidate(s) and an annual query for current employees.
- Knowledge of methods and techniques for prioritizing, assigning, and reviewing the work of others and working cooperatively with a wide variety of people.
- Knowledge of safety practices and precautions in transportation maintenance work.
- Knowledge of proper traffic control procedures, including highway signing, flagging, and coning.
- Skill in communicating and following oral and written instructions and keeping written and computerized records of work.
- Experience completing basic mechanical repairs on light and heavy vehicles or equipment.
- Experience leading and coordinating a team.
- Experience participating on district leadership teams, safety committees, or large district‑wide projects.
- A current, valid commercial driver’s license A (CDL‑A) is preferred.
