Position: Assistant Principal (Thunder Mountain Middle School)
Location: Thunder Mountain Middle School
Full Time Position: (1.0 FTE)

Position Summary:
The Juneau School District located in the capital city of Alaska is seeking an outstanding educational leader to serve as the Assistant Principal at Thunder Mountain Middle School beginning with the  school year.

Required qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in education or closely-related field.
  • Must have Alaska Type B administrative certificate and an Alaska Type A teaching certificate.
  • At least three years of successful classroom teaching experience.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Ensuring excellent instruction in all classrooms for all students
  • Academic growth for all students.
  • Ensuring a safe school environment.
  • An inclusive special education model.
  • Parental involvement and school/community partnerships.
  • Broad-based community involvement and inter-agency cooperation.
  • Being an advocate for all students, parents and staff of the school community.

  • Successful experience in serving at-risk students.
  • Demonstrated skills as a team builder, mediator and facilitator.
  • Proven leadership skills including staff development and evaluation.
  • Successful experience in administering a school wide discipline program.
  • Experience with overall building management.
  • Successful experience coordinating student activities/athletics.
  • Master's degree in education preferred.
  • Exceptional relationship building and interpersonal skills with students, parents, staff and community.
  • Experience using formative and intermediate data to modify instruction to meet individual student needs.
  • Successful middle or high school teaching and administrative experience desired.
  • Knowledge of, and commitment to, research-based best practices for instruction, curriculum, standards and assessment.
  • Demonstrated experience in, and application of, educational technology to enhance student achievement and engagement.
Compensation:
This is a 205-day contract with a salary placement on the JSAA salary schedule dependent upon on education and experience. Annual salary range is $-$ We offer an excellent benefit package including an employer-sponsored health plan (medical, dental and vision), employer-paid life insurance up to 2.5 times the administrator's salary as well as membership in the Teachers Retirement System (TRS) plan, auto allowance and cell phone allowance.
