JOB SUMMARYThis is a temporary, non-benefited, full-time, Fair Labor Standards Act overtime non-exempt intern position, lasting no more than 90 days or 5 months depending on the appointment. The regular work schedule is Monday through Friday 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, or as approved by the position supervisor.
Under limited supervision of the Public Works GIS Analyst, the candidate will be responsible for collecting GPS field data of utility infrastructure as part of ongoing asset management data and mapping improvements. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to gathering utility asset geographic and attribute data using Trimble GPS survey equipment, ArcGIS Field Maps, and OpenGOV EAM, as well as executing various other GIS and/or office tasks as needed.
This is a full-time, seasonal-temporary position.
- Collect utility asset structure data using Trimble GPS survey equipment and various mapping software.
- Walk and stand for extended periods across mixed terrain while operating 10‑lb. GPS equipment.
- Work outdoors for long periods in various environmental conditions, including occasional inclement weather.
- Work safely in moderately to densely vegetated areas and in or near roadways while gathering survey data, maintaining awareness of terrain, traffic, obstacles, and environmental hazards.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
- Experience with Trimble GPS hardware and GIS/GPS data‑collection best practices.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access.
- Ability to take direction, communicate effectively, resolve problems, and work independently or as part of a team.
- Aptitude for making sound decisions and exercising good judgment when working independently.
- Demonstrate thoroughness and attention to detail in data collection, documentation, and task completion.
- Must possess a valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
- Enrollment and good standing in a four‑year university program related to Geography, GIS, Engineering, or a related field.
