About the RoleWe are seeking a Director of Software Engineering to lead the design, development, and support of internal software applications and the integration/modification of third-party systems. This role partners closely with business leaders, customers, vendors, and IT stakeholders to deliver scalable, high-quality solutions that support critical business strategies.
The Director will provide strategic and operational leadership for multiple Agile engineering teams, manage technology-related risks, and ensure software platforms effectively enable business operations.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage the Software Engineering function within the IT organization.
- Build and scale a high-performing Agile organization focused on system design, development, and ongoing maintenance.
- Translate company vision, goals, and priorities into software and technology strategies.
- Motivate and develop teams to deliver high-quality, reliable software solutions.
- Anticipate technology trends and align emerging capabilities with business needs.
- Oversee multiple Agile teams, backlogs, and delivery roadmaps; manage resource allocation, prioritization, and staffing.
- Establish clear goals, KPIs, and performance objectives aligned to business outcomes; hold leaders accountable.
- Foster an environment that supports technical excellence, leadership development, and career growth.
- Define department objectives and continuously improve team capability and performance.
- Ensure application services are effective, efficient, and highly valued by internal stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal business partners and external vendors.
- Own departmental budgeting, forecasting, and financial management.
- Drive process improvement initiatives to enhance delivery, quality, and operational efficiency.
- Contribute to enterprise application and system architecture planning, assessing cost, feasibility, and alignment to strategy.
- Partner with business units and IT teams to ensure successful project implementation and ongoing support.
- Stay current on software development trends, tools, architectures, and delivery models.
- Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
- Evaluate, purchase, and integrate third-party software solutions and services.
Skills & Qualifications
- Deep knowledge of IT strategy, software development methodologies, and SDLC.
- Proven success leading large, high-performing Agile engineering teams.
- Strong strategic thinking with the ability to align technology to business outcomes.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstrated leadership in problem solving, critical thinking, and decision-making.
- Experience with budget management, financial planning, and project management.
- Ability to influence, negotiate, and build consensus across technical and non-technical audiences.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- 10+ years of software engineering experience strongly preferred.
- 15+ years of overall technology experience, including 5+ years in technology leadership or management roles.
