Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance and repair of dam equipment such as gate controls, main and redundant hydraulic units, radial and emergency gates, touch screens and control units.
- Operate radial and emergency gates to maintain proper water level and flow using standard operating procedures.
- Collect, store, and remove debris that accumulates in the upper basins.
- Operate heavy equipment such as a road grader, bulldozer, dump truck, brush cutter or pavement sweeper.
- Perform duties in electrical, welding, plumbing, painting, machining, rigging, carpentry, engine and equipment repair, and quarry work.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination based on a completed background investigation.
- Must obtain Class A commercial driver’s license with N (tanker) endorsement within one year of appointment.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
- Pre‑employment and random drug testing required.
- Pre‑employment and annual physicals required.
- Must obtain forklift certification within one year of appointment.
- May be required to obtain a USACE boat license within one year of appointment.
- No specific length of training or experience is required; must demonstrate, through written application materials, sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
- Journeyman level experience in one or more of the following areas: electrical, carpentry, machinist, mechanic, welder, or engineering equipment operator.
- Ability to perform routine installation, maintenance or repair on mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic or electrical equipment.
Work requires considerable standing, stooping, bending, climbing, reaching, and maneuvering in cramped spaces. Regularly lifts 40 to 50 pounds. Uses ladders and scaffolds that require overhead work or awkward positions. Operation of equipment involves jarring, jolting, jerking, twisting, bouncing, vibration, and strenuous physical activity.
Working ConditionsWork performed inside includes noisy, dirty, cold, damp, drafty, and greasy areas. Outside work is in all kinds of weather, including rain, wind, snow, and flooding. Incumbent is subject to cuts, bruises, falls, scrapes, fumes, burns, abrasions, and danger to fingers, hands, and other body parts from cutting tools, grinding wheels, rotating work pieces, and moving machine parts. Falling rocks and debris pose additional hazards.
Safety equipment such as gloves, hard‑toed shoes, hard hat, life jacket, and rain gear may be required.
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre‑Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
- Proof of U.S. citizenship is required.
- A 1‑year probationary period during which the agency evaluates fitness and continuation of employment.
- Direct deposit of pay is required.
- Selection is subject to restrictions from the Department of Defense referral system.
- This position is not eligible for telework.
