Position Summary

The Facilities Maintenance Technician I is responsible for property, facilities, and building maintenance. This includes use of maintenance software, event support, range support, supervision, basic construction and trades (carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, welding), heavy machine operations, snow removal, and HAZMAT handling. This is an entry‑level role requiring a basic understanding of carpentry and landscaping and typically 0–2 years of experience. The role works in a customer-facing environment with Academy personnel and various departments.

Education/Experience

& Skills
  • High school diploma and 0–2 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience with safe firearms handling, emergency medical response, heavy machinery operations, HAZMAT, and basic carpentry preferred.
  • Ability to use all weapons systems within SIG.
  • Range and CPR certification.
  • Blood, lead, and hearing tests required twice a year.
  • Microsoft Office (Word and Outlook) required; experience with eMaint, OTJ, , and BMS preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform day-to-day operations and maintenance to ensure optimal functioning of range and building properties.
  • Oversee installations, inspections, repairs, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting of building systems (mechanical, electrical, fire/life safety, plumbing, waste management).
  • Complete projects under the guidance of the Supervisor.
  • Log activities, tasks, requests, and support items for visibility and tracking.
  • Perform reactive and preventative maintenance using the maintenance system.
  • Conduct landscaping and maintain grounds to meet customer expectations.
  • Maintain and document work in indoor ranges to ensure cleanliness, safety, and peak performance.
  • Monitor indoor ranges for safety and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain range ventilation systems; perform maintenance on filters, levers, targets, targeting systems, and retrievers.
  • Assist with cleaning and housekeeping to reflect excellence for students, customers, and staff.
  • Perform snow removal operations outside of contracted seasonal work when required.
  • Assist in small projects and periodic cleaning to maintain appearance of facilities.
  • Learn operation, maintenance, and safety around heavy equipment.
  • Support Events team in organizing and setting up events on the SEC and Academy property.
  • Maintain heavy equipment, snow removal equipment, landscaping equipment, fleet vehicles, and Academy class vehicles.
  • Report issues to Supervisor and participate in problem resolution.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on building systems and mechanical equipment (e.g., HVAC, ventilation, water filtration, roofing).
  • Prioritize requests and maintain records for data entry and reporting.
  • Oversee outside contractors and verify work quality; ensure cleaning and maintenance meet contractual obligations.
  • Advise on safety and range use through the Academy.
  • Operate in a controlled and safe manner at all times.
  • Monitor fire suppression systems and respond to incidents as needed.
  • Engage in continuous improvement projects and sustain 5S standards.
  • Follow all required safety and ISO procedures.
  • Attend on-site as required and be punctual; may work in other areas or shifts based on business needs.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
  • Primarily standing during shift (90+%).
  • Occasional ladder/climb work, lifting up to 40 pounds; moving equipment up to 100 pounds.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, and reaching; repetitive motions may be required.
  • Work environment may be dusty, hot, wet, or confined; exposure to varying climate conditions.
  • Must wear PPE as required and comply with EH&S training and security mandates.
