The associate director of alumni and family engagement will strengthen relationships with Curtis alumni and family communities. This role blends strategic engagement, creative event planning, and thoughtful communication. The associate director will develop and execute a comprehensive alumni and family engagement program that will deepen affinity connections through philanthropy, volunteerism, and lifelong involvement.

  • Essential Functions

    Key Areas of Responsibility:

    • With support from the director of annual giving, alumni, and donor engagement, develop and implement alumni and family engagement strategies—including events, communications, volunteer programs, affinity groups, and stewardship initiatives.
    • Build and strengthen individual relationships with alumni and families, understanding their interests to foster meaningful connections with Curtis.
    • Work with the director of annual giving, alumni, and donor engagement to help shape solicitation strategies for alumni and families, supporting efforts to foster a culture of philanthropy and increase annual giving participation.
    • Plan and execute alumni and family engagement opportunities (e.g., reunions, receptions, networking programs) with guidance and support from the engagement events manager.
    • Create compelling communications in partnership with marketing, including newsletters, social media, and email campaigns to keep alumni and families informed.
    • Grow and manage the Curtis Alumni Group on Linked In, fostering an active online community, facilitating networking opportunities, and sharing relevant updates and engagement opportunities.
    • Recruit, train, and manage volunteers for engagement and fundraising efforts, including advisory boards, affinity groups, and event planning.
    • Collaborate across departments to align alumni and family engagement with Curtis’ institutional goals.
    • Develop stewardship initiatives to recognize and appreciate alumni and family donors.
    • Other duties as assigned.
  • Preferred Experience and Qualifications

    Education/

    Experience:

    • A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in alumni engagement is highly preferred; program development and/or volunteer management in a higher education or arts environment will also be considered.
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • Preference for experience with event planning and execution, including budget management and logistics coordination.
    • Knowledge and skill working with databases and Microsoft Office products, particularly Microsoft Excel and mail merges.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Proven ability to build rapport and establish trust with diverse constituencies.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
    • Ability to communicate the value and benefits of music education to all audiences.
