Assistant Superintendent, Teaching, Learning, and Leadership

The Assistant Superintendent for the Office of Teaching, Learning, and Leadership provides executive-level vision, strategic direction, and oversight for the district's core academic programs, early learning pipelines, and specialized instructional models. This position is responsible for the design, alignment, and regular cycle evaluation of a rigorous curriculum, ensuring that inclusive practices, English Language Learner (ELL) development, and foundational Special Education instructional delivery are seamlessly integrated across all educational settings.

Serving as a key member of the Superintendent's Cabinet, the Assistant Superintendent cultivates high-impact leadership teams, guides professional learning systems, and drives data-informed instructional frameworks to eliminate learning gaps and accelerate achievement for all students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Duty/Responsibility #1:
Instructional Leadership

Tasks involved in fulfilling above duty/responsibility:

  • Drive the strategic planning, implementation, vertical articulation, and regular cycle evaluation of a rigorous Pre-K through Grade 12 curriculum that meets or exceeds Pennsylvania Core Standards.
  • Direct the planning, programming, and expansion of district Early Learning initiatives and foundational literacy pipelines.
  • Oversee and support the core instructional delivery frameworks for English Language Learners (ELL), ensuring specialized language acquisition programming is integrated across general education settings.
  • Guide academic teams and school leadership in isolating and analyzing key academic performance metrics to eliminate learning gaps and ensure resource equity.
  • Ensure that inclusive practices, culturally responsive pedagogy, and differentiated instructional methodologies are embedded across all classrooms to support high academic standards.
  • Oversee the research, selection, procurement, and systemic implementation of evidence-based instructional materials, educational technology, and core academic programs.

Duty/Responsibility #2:
Supervision and Leadership Development

Tasks involved in fulfilling above duty/responsibility:

  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate assigned professional, administrative, and instructional leadership personnel across central office divisions and designated school building portfolios.
  • Establish district-wide clear performance expectations and accountability metrics for assigned teams, linking evaluations directly to student growth and organizational milestones.
  • Design, implement, and facilitate professional development frameworks that build technical competency and leadership capacity among administrative and instructional staff.
  • Establish sustainable leadership pipelines to identify, coach, prepare, and retain emerging administrative and instructional talent across the district.

Duty/Responsibility #3:
Data Integration and Performance Accountability

Tasks involved in fulfilling above duty/responsibility:

  • Navigate complex operational, academic, and systemic challenges across the district, ensuring timely and effective resolutions.
  • Direct the administration, security, and systemic evaluation of all district-wide local benchmark tools and state-mandated assessment programs.
  • Translate complex state accountability data and growth metrics into actionable, long-range institutional improvement plans.
  • Monitor ongoing trends in student growth, graduation rates, and promotion pathways to adjust macro-level instructional and structural strategies.

Duty/Responsibility #4:
Regulatory Governance and Professional Learning

Tasks involved in fulfilling above duty/responsibility:

  • Ensure absolute alignment and compliance with Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) guidelines, school code, and federal educational mandates.
  • Oversee the design, execution, and compliance reporting of state-required initiatives, including the district's Comprehensive Plan, Act 48 professional development frameworks, and Educator Induction Plans.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning by anchoring professional development in adult learning principles, current educational research, and systemic district priorities.

Duty/Responsibility #5:
Fiscal Stewardship and Community Advocacy

Tasks involved in fulfilling above duty/responsibility:

  • Formulate and manage complex administrative budgets within the Office of Teaching, Learning, and Leadership, optimizing general funds alongside local, state, and federal grants.
  • Articulate the district's educational vision, academic milestones, and inclusive initiatives transparently to the Board of School Directors, families, and community partners.
  • Serve as an executive liaison to navigate and resolve highly escalated, complex community and organizational concerns with diplomacy, equity, and transparency.
