Job Description
This position is responsible to act as a professional tutor and provide individualized and small group assistance to students who are experiencing difficulty with basic principles and concepts related to biology of the Human body and living organisms.
Essential Job Functions- Conduct sessions on general science knowledge that will aid students with courses, preparation for labs, and toward the successful completion of exams.
- Emphasize and promote general skills of problem solving and decision-making, and critical thinking.
- Assist students in assessing their progress and determining their goals, strengths, and needs, and accommodate as necessary.
- Advise students on effective study skills and habits.
- Assist participants with development of a positive self-concept and orientation toward learning – providing encouragement and positive reinforcement.
- Accurately maintain records on assigned students and submit reports as required.
- Assist students with the use of various learning systems.
- Coordinate and monitor services provided to program participants.
- Refer special problems to appropriate individual(s) (i.e., coordinator, counselor, and/or instructor).
- Prepare and lead workshops for students.
- Meet with instructors to receive up to date course information and materials.
- Prepare practice quizzes and exams for individualized learning and success.
- Accurately maintain records and submit reports as required.
- Participate in departmental meetings, various committees and professional organizations as required.
- Maintain and develop work related knowledge, skills, and competencies related to the job through professional development and cross training opportunities.
- Maintain up-to-date with professional credentials, best practices and current disciplines including continued educational requirements through certifications, seminars, training programs, etc.
- Perform additional grade level duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace products required.
- Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS) required.
- Proficient verbal and written communications.
- Ability to consistently provide excellent customer service.
- Ability to respond professionally to unpredictability.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments, including managing multiple projects/tasks concurrently and meet varied deadlines.
- Ability to identify problems, make corrective recommendations and assist with the problem-solving process.
EDUCATION : Associate degree in Human Biology or a related field required.
EXPERIENCE : Prior work performance must have met or exceeded appropriate work standards in current and prior positions.
Clearances- PA Child History clearance
- PA Criminal Record Check clearance
- FBI Federal Criminal History Record clearance
- Related work experience in higher education working with “at risk” students preferred.
- Prolonged sitting
- Frequent standing/walking or otherwise moving around department/campus
- Repetitive finger/hand movements
- Occasional lifting up to 20 lbs.
- Occasional bending
- Ability to communicate orally and hear conversation
- Use of computer and internet/internet-based systems
- Reading and preparing documents, reports, presentations, etc.
- Work is primarily conducted in a typical indoor office environment with appropriate lighting, noises, and temperature control.
- Minimal risk of injury or work-related illnesses.
Salary $19.02/hour
ScheduleDays/Hours Monday - Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
