Qualifications
Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology.Valid PA Department of Education certificate.Clinical Competency Certificate, preferred.Demonstrate proficiency using technology for computer assisted management and intervention programs with students.Such alternatives to the above as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.Reports To
Building Principal, Supervisor of Special Education, and Director of Student Services
Job Goal
To provide remedial services to students with speech, language, voice, eating, swallowing, fluency, or hearing difficulties. Improve their methods of expressive/receptive communication and eventually attain appropriate speech or language skills. The speech and language therapist will also implement strategies and interventions to support students in improving their expressive/receptive communication.
Performance Responsibilities
Provide Level I, II, and III screening for students who may have speech/language difficulties.Level I: mass screening of an entire group of childrenLevel II: screening due to a referral by a parent, teacher, or other professionalLevel III: direct interaction of the speech therapist with students as part of the response to intervention and instruction process or special education evaluation process.Participate in school-based screening process.Facilitate and participate in the evaluation report process for all students who receive speech and language as a related service.Assume role as chairperson of the evaluation/reevaluation process for students who have a speech and language disability as the sole reason for special education.Develop Individualized Educational Plans (IEP) for all students identified as having speech and language disabilities.Communicate with special education teachers regarding re-evaluation and IEP needs for students with speech/language impairments.Provide a program of therapy in individual, small group, or classroom sessions.Communicate student progress to parents, teachers, and IEP team members.Cooperate with professional agencies.Prepare therapy materials, diagnostic reports, and therapy plans.Maintain comprehensive records and updated class lists.Inform the community of program availability and goals. Present information to parent groups, PTA, teacher groups/school administrators, and professional organizations.Perform classroom observations and visitations.Attend faculty and staff meetings.Refer, evaluate, and implement assistive technology goals when appropriate.Implement and support English as a Second Language program in cooperation with elementary and middle school ESL teachers.Any other duties assigned by the Superintendent or their designee.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
