Custom Engineering Company in Erie, PA seeks a Welding Engineer to support design, fabrication, and repair of custom industrial equipment, including hydraulic presses, heat transfer equipment, and precision components. In this hands-on role, you will develop and qualify WPS/PQRs, ensure compliance with AWS and ASME codes, and provide on-the-floor support to welders and fabricators. Responsibilities include weld inspection, coordinating NDT, troubleshooting defects, and driving root cause and corrective actions.
You will collaborate closely with engineering and production to optimize welding processes, improve quality and throughput, and contribute to continuous improvement in a safety-focused, engineering-driven culture.
Responsibilities
- Develop, qualify, and maintain WPS/PQRs for carbon, alloy, and stainless steel weldments.
- Ensure welding operations comply with AWS, ASME, and customer specifications.
- Support design, fabrication, and repair of hydraulic presses, heat transfer equipment, and machined components.
- Perform weld inspection, coordinate NDT, and resolve weld quality issues.
- Analyze weld defects, lead root cause investigations, and implement corrective actions.
- Optimize welding parameters, fixturing, and sequences to improve quality and throughput.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams on project reviews and manufacturability.
- Train and mentor welders on procedures, techniques, and safety requirements.
- Participate in continuous improvement, documentation, and standardization of welding practices.
- Support full project lifecycle from design through shop floor execution and final inspection.
