As the Financial Accounting & Reporting Analyst for the Blue Cross NC Foundation, you will support the grantmaking work of the BCBSNC Foundation by ensuring timely and accurate payments of grants and expenses, production of accurate, quality and timely GAAP and statutory financial reporting; ensuring adherence to financial accounting controls and policies; coordinating the monthly, quarterly and yearly close; and coordinating general ledger maintenance.

In conjunction with the Operational Excellence Project Manager and other internal and external partners, the Financial Accounting & Reporting Analyst implements and oversees projects to improve aspects of the Foundation's operations. This position reports to the Foundation Vice President, Finance & Operations.

What

You’ll Do
  • Design, recommend, implement, maintain and monitor financial accounting and reporting processes, policies and systems, continuously focusing on process improvement and simplification.
  • Ensure financial accounting and reporting controls maintain a high degree of accuracy and emphasize a culture of accountability.
  • Collaborate with management on the development of the annual budget.
  • Perform and review accounting policy research related to Statutory Accounting Principles, presenting results to senior finance leadership.
  • Manage day‑to‑day accounting processes including accounts payable, expense reimbursements, and wire transfers, ensuring adherence to Foundation policies and budget.
  • Lead the vendor management process, ensuring collection of appropriate data and tax compliance documents, and manage relationships with vendors, consultants and grantees to provide insight and respond to inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations, assist with the monthly close activities, prepare schedules and other general accounting functions.
  • Manage or perform functions related to accounting and reporting on a GAAP/FASB basis, researching and analyzing financial/operating data to identify and solve challenges impacting business units, acting as a reference for others.
  • Initiate projects to improve processes and controls, partnering with project teams to resolve project/post‑project issues and participate on cross‑functional projects as a finance representative.
  • Responsible for the setup and maintenance of accounting systems, chart of accounts, or other reporting and accounting sub‑systems, ensuring all financial transactions are reported accurately and in line with budget.
  • Perform timely and accurate account and system reconciliations, monitoring resolution of reconciling items on a timely basis.
  • Contribute to accounting related presentations to the team.
  • Responsible for preparation of GAAP/FASB monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for internal and external audiences, including 1099 data and supporting information for tax returns.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in grants management and operational excellence to ensure that grants and contracts payments comply with legal agreements.
  • Assist with internal and external audits; coordinate timely release of appropriate information; respond to audit reports and initiate follow‑up activities for action items to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls and perform self‑testing.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree (where required).
  • 8+ years of experience in related field.
  • In lieu of degree, 10+ years of experience in related field.
Bonus Points
  • Master’s Degree in Accounting, preferred.
  • Nonprofit accounting experience, 3+ years, preferred.
  • Proficient technology skills in MS Excel, Accounting G/L, and an innovative approach to solving problems through technology.
  • Prior experience with Blackbaud, , Fast Fund, and Workiva.
