Technician, Research Laboratory C

Overview

Primary role is the technical processing of biospecimens in the Penn Medicine Bio Bank with emphasis on DNA isolations. DNA isolations include both automated and manual systems and all supporting aspects of DNA isolations. Biospecimens will include blood, tissue, and bodily fluids. Sample handling encompasses blood separation and advanced cell gradient and tissue culture. Under supervision of Technical Director and Lab Manager, maintain strict adherence to SOPs, QC and QA policies consistent with study guidelines as well as ISBER Best Practices.

Facilitate all aspects of sample inventory and distribution. Provide special handling and processing of unusual specimens. Additional responsibilities include freezer monitoring and rotating on-call freezer response, shipping biological specimens, record keeping, equipment maintenance/calibration, and safety compliance in the lab. Candidates must have good communication skills.

• Perform technical processing of biospecimens with emphasis on DNA isolations using both automated and manual systems.
• Handle biospecimens including blood, tissue, and bodily fluids; manage sample handling such as blood separation and cell gradient/tissue culture.
• Adhere to SOPs, QC and QA policies in line with study guidelines and ISBER Best Practices.
• Facilitate inventory management and distribution of samples; provide special handling for unusual specimens.
• Monitor freezers and participate in on-call freezer rotation; ship biological specimens as required.
• Maintain records, conduct equipment maintenance/calibration, and ensure safety compliance in the lab.
• Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.

• Good communication skills.
• Ability to work under supervision of Technical Director and Lab Manager and follow established SOPs, QC, and QA policies; familiarity with ISBER Best Practices.
