Job Summary
Highmark is seeking a highly motivated Mainframe Senior Architect to join the Mainframe Platform Services team. The role is accountable for the performance and capacity management of Highmark’s IBM zEnterprise mainframe environment, ensuring optimal system efficiency, scalability, and cost‑effectiveness.
US citizenship is required.
- Proactively monitor system resource utilization (CPU, memory, storage) and analyze workload trends.
- Perform capacity forecasting and performance tuning of applications, middleware (CICS, Db2), and Workload Manager (WLM) policies.
- Analyze data using RMF, SMF, Omegamon, and other performance tools.
- Optimize billing and cost through Sub‑Capacity Reporting Tool (SCRT).
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with application and Dev Ops teams to support business growth.
- Provide strategic consultation to business customers on complex processes and technology options.
- Lead design, specification, and integration of large or complex systems, ensuring adherence to standards and best practices.
- Develop executive dashboards and operational reporting tools to translate system data into actionable insights.
- Mentor peers and provide technical leadership on architecture initiatives.
- 10+ years of mainframe systems experience in large, multi‑LPAR, Parallel Sysplex z/OS environments.
- In‑depth experience with RMF, SMF, WLM, and other mainframe performance tools.
- Strong hands‑on skills in REXX, JCL, and scripting.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Deep understanding of IBM mainframe pricing models (MSU, MIPS).
- Excellent troubleshooting skills in real‑time workload optimization.
- Experience with ZPCR, Macro4 Freeze frame, BMC Thruput Manager, TADz, and Intelli Magic.
- Knowledge of highly transactional, large‑scale data systems.
- Experience creating executive dashboards and operational reporting tools.
- Ability to code SAS for generating reports.
- Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or closely related discipline. - Preferred:
Master’s Degree.
