UPMC Hamot is hiring a Casual Professional Staff Nurse to join our 4 South Trauma unit!
Hour details:
The position requires working 36 hours within each six-week scheduling period. Scheduling is determined based on both employee availability and the operational needs of the unit. Team members are expected to work one winter holiday and one summer holiday during the year. Additionally, each six-week schedule includes 12 hours of off-shift time, which may consist of evening, night, or weekend hours.
5 years acute care nursing experience highly preferred.

Purpose:
The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse and a member of the care delivery team. The Professional Staff Nurse is responsible to set the standards for the level and quality of care. The Professional Staff Nurse has responsibility, authority and accountability for the provision of nursing care. The Professional Staff Nurse manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication and collaboration with all team members.
The role of the Professional Staff Nurse encompasses leadership, partnership, collaboration and supervision. The Professional Staff Nurse establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. The Professional Staff Nurse demonstrates a commitment to the community and to the nursing profession.

+ Applies adult learning principles in teaching patients, families, students, and new staff.
+ Provides clear, detailed education to guide patients and families through care episodes and transitions.
+ Supports development of students, new staff, and colleagues; may act as a preceptor.

+ Identifies and communicates opportunities for quality improvement to team and management.

+ Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care for patients on assigned unit.
+ Understands principles of growth and development across the lifespan.
+ Assesses patient data and interprets information to identify age-specific needs.
+ Provides care according to department policies and procedures.
+ Minimum 1 year of experience required; BSN preferred.
+ Builds and maintains positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, staff, and patients/families.
+ Works effectively in complex environments with multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
+ Exhibits good clinical judgment, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills for patient care.
+ Applies and leads others in the nursing process using critical thinking skills.
+ Requires mobility, visual/manual dexterity, and physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning patients.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
+ Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within one year of hire or transfer.
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
