A Brief Overview

The Inpatient Liquid Tumor Advanced Practice Provider serves as a clinical expert and continuity provider for patients with liquid tumors, supporting hospital‑based oncology teams. This Monday–Friday, day‑shift role focuses on high‑quality, coordinated inpatient care, procedural expertise, and seamless transitions to outpatient management.

In collaboration with the attending physician, the APP provides comprehensive care aligned with their scope of practice, including clinical management, consultation, education, and professional development.

Experience Qualifications
  • At least 1‑2 years of Oncology experience as an RN or Advanced Practice Provider required
Key Responsibilities Clinical Care & Team Management
  • Provide advanced assessment and daily management of a cohort of liquid tumor patients, including documentation and family‑centered care planning
  • Lead day‑to‑day coordination of the liquid tumor service, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to oversee chemotherapy ordering, procedures, supportive care, and discharge planning
  • Partner closely with outpatient teams to ensure efficient, safe and smooth transitions of care between in‑patient and outpatient
  • Participate in division‑wide conferences and team meetings; attend the weekly leukemia/lymphoma conference and share key insights and clinical updates with the broader team
Procedural Expertise
  • Perform credentialed procedures, including bone marrow aspirates/biopsies, lumbar punctures with intrathecal chemotherapy, and skin biopsies
  • Partner with the other APP’s to ensure the team is maintain procedural competencies
Care Evaluation & Optimization
  • Continuously evaluate treatment effectiveness and adjust care plans based on evidence‑based practice and patient/family response
Patient & Family Education
  • Provide clear, compassionate education to patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, procedures, and discharge care
Team Education & Consultation
  • Serve as a clinical resource and educator for fellows, residents, advanced practice providers, and nursing staff
  • Provide consultation to multidisciplinary team members to support high‑quality oncology care
Professional Development & Scholarship
  • Engage in research, education, and scholarly activities
  • Maintain competencies and pursue ongoing professional development
  • Precept and mentor trainees and colleagues
Patient Safety & Quality
  • Promote a culture of safety through proactive communication and system‑based reporting
  • Demonstrate shared accountability for safe, high‑quality care
  • Utilizes advanced assessment skills to manage a cohort of patients. Performs and documents daily assessments. Collects and analyzes data and formulates a family‑centered plan of care.
  • Performs any needed advanced procedures that are listed in the Scope of Practice Document and approved as a part of the credentialing process.
  • Evaluates and monitors the effectiveness of the prescribed treatment plan. Using the most current evidence, modifies the plan of care based on the effectiveness of the treatment and the patient/family response to the plan.
  • Serves as an educational resource to the patient/family, nursing staff, and provider team. Acts as a consultant to multidisciplinary health‑care team members.
