Full-Time Professional Staff Nurse – 6 Main | UPMC Hamot
Join the team on 6 Main at UPMC Hamot, a dynamic outpatient-focused department dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care while supporting the efficiency and throughput of procedural services. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with an experienced interdisciplinary team in a patient-centered environment where quality, safety, and collaboration are a top priority.
Schedule
- Three (3) 12-hour day shifts per week
- Monday through Friday rotation
- Weekend call coverage for infusion patients
- No scheduled weekends
- No scheduled holidays
This position is essential to maintaining high-quality patient care and supporting patient access to outpatient services. Appropriate staffing levels directly impact the department's ability to safely manage outpatient volumes, maintain operational efficiency, and ensure timely patient throughput. As a key member of the team, the Professional Staff Nurse plays an important role in supporting both outpatient services and the procedural areas that rely on efficient patient flow.
Candidates with two or more years of inpatient nursing experience are preferred.
The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse who is responsible for providing patient-centered care through the nursing process, utilizing critical thinking, collaboration, and evidence-based practice to achieve optimal patient outcomes. This role works closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary team members to deliver safe, high-quality care while promoting a positive patient experience.
Responsibilities:

- Supports the development of students, new staff and colleagues, may serve as a preceptor.
- Creates an environment of open dialogue, inquiry and continuous development by asking for feedback and improving practice.
- Applies the nursing process within the framework of Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment.
- Formulates daily goals and a plan of care for patients that involves the patient as partner and considers the individual needs of the patient in a holistic manner.
- Demonstrates critical thinking in the identification of clinical, social, safety, psychological and spiritual issues for the patient care within an episode of care.
- Practices solid communication skills, and is able to articulate and translate the patient's condition to other care providers and to negotiate and make recommendations for changes in patient care and unit practices.
- Patient documentation is comprehensive and promotes communication between caregivers. Incorporates national professional organization as well as business unit and health system's goals to improve patient safety, quality and satisfaction.
Creates a caring and compassionate patient focused experience by building healing relationships with patients, families and colleagues. - Demonstrates accountability for professional development that improves the quality of professional practice and the quality of patient care.
