Full-Time Flex Senior Professional Staff Nurse, BSN – Stress Lab | UPMC Hamot Heart Institute

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Join the UPMC Hamot Heart Institute as a Senior Professional Staff Nurse in our Stress Lab, where you will play a key role in delivering high-quality cardiovascular care to both inpatient and outpatient populations. We are seeking an experienced nurse who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about patient safety, clinical excellence, and exceptional patient experiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years of prior nursing experience strongly preferred
  • Previous cardiac or cardiovascular care experience preferred

The Stress Lab Nurse plays a vital role in supporting the safe and efficient delivery of cardiac stress testing services. Responsibilities include patient assessment, monitoring patients throughout testing procedures, medication administration, patient education, and responding to clinical concerns during diagnostic testing. This position works closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, and the interdisciplinary care team to ensure quality outcomes and an exceptional patient experience.

In addition to direct patient care responsibilities, the Stress Lab Nurse supports departmental operations by promoting scheduling efficiency, maintaining patient throughput, ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards, and contributing to continuity of care. This role is essential to meeting the growing cardiovascular needs of our community while maintaining the highest standards of patient-centered care.

The Senior Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse and a valued member of the care delivery team. This role is responsible for setting standards for the level and quality of care provided. The Senior Professional Staff Nurse has responsibility, authority, and accountability for nursing practice and patient outcomes. Through the application of independent judgment, effective communication, and collaboration with interdisciplinary team members, this nurse manages and provides care for patients and their families across the continuum of care.

As a clinical leader, the Senior Professional Staff Nurse exemplifies partnership, collaboration, mentorship, and professional excellence. This individual establishes and maintains strong relationships with physicians, healthcare professionals, patients, and families to achieve desired outcomes while demonstrating a commitment to the nursing profession and the community.

Title and salary will be determined based on education, experience, and career ladder qualifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a role model of professional nursing practice by serving as a recognized unit leader in one or more of the following areas: clinical expertise, teacher, specialized resource nurse, and/or evidence-based practice.
  • Consistently gives appropriate feedback to all members of the health care team and participates in the nursing peer review process.
  • Promotes change that enhances the quality of patient care and the unit environment.
  • Serves on teams and leads successful teams as a part of daily practice.
  • Demonstrates highly developed clinical assessment and analytical skills within the context of Relationship Based Care.
  • Actively participates in shared governance at unit level and serves on hospital-wide councils.
  • Applies the nursing process within the framework of Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment.
  • Formulates daily goals and a plan of care for patients that involves the patient as partner and considers the individual needs of the patient in a holistic manner.
  • Practices solid communication skills, and is able to articulate and translate the patient's condition to other care providers and to negotiate and make recommendations for changes in patient care and unit practices.
  • Patient documentation is comprehensive and promotes communication between caregivers.
