About Maestro MeetingsMaestro Meetings (MM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit affiliated with the Latin American Studies Association (LASA). MM serves nonprofit organizations, with experience in academic and mission-driven settings and international events. Its services include venue selection, contract negotiation, conference management, and related event services. MM is expanding its association-management offerings. Sustainable growth strengthens MM’s services and its financial support for the Latin American Studies Association (LASA)’s mission.
TheOpportunity
MM seeks an experienced, hands‑on professional to identify, cultivate, and secure financially sustainable nonprofit client relationships. The Director will advance opportunities from prospecting and discovery through proposals, negotiation, and contract completion, working closely with the President and designated operations, finance, contract‑negotiation, and marketing colleagues.
The role will build on MM’s established conference and contract‑negotiation services while pursuing recurring outsourced and association‑management contracts that MM has approved and can deliver. Priorities and activity levels will be agreed with the President to fit the half-time schedule.
Scope and SupportThis is an earned‑revenue and client‑acquisition position, not a donor‑fundraising, marketing‑production, or meeting‑operations role. The Director supplies sales priorities and client insight to shared marketing; routine website, social‑media, design, and campaign production remain with marketing support. Routine client delivery remains with operations. MM will provide operational expertise, approved sales materials, and an agreed business‑development budget.

Identify opportunities in recurring conferences, venue sourcing and contract negotiation, selected outsourced services, and approved association‑management offerings. Qualify prospects for mission fit, nonprofit‑client eligibility, budget, decision process, timing, service requirements, and MM’s capacity to deliver. Do not market unapproved or unresourced capabilities.
2
- Generate opportunities and cultivate referral relationships
Combine proactive outreach, inbound follow‑up, and monitoring of requests for proposals (RFPs). Build referral relationships with association executives, universities, publishers, destinations, convention bureaus, hotels, and complementary service providers, including association and conference management firms where appropriate. Referral sources need not be nonprofit, but contracted clients must meet MM’s nonprofit‑client requirement. Disclose potential conflicts and observe MM’s approval requirements.
3
- Navigate association decisions and advance the sale
Conduct discovery conversations and translate client objectives into proposed service packages. Understand budget cycles, board approvals, RFP requirements, member priorities, and sponsor/exhibitor considerations where relevant. Build relationships with appropriate staff and volunteer leaders rather than depending on a single contact. Track the next decision and responsible decision‑maker. Seek lasting…
