Director, Finance Controlling

The Director, Finance Controlling serves as the strategic financial leader for the U.S. HUBs within the Express division, driving end‑to‑end financial planning, performance management, and operational transparency across the network. This role is accountable for strengthening cost discipline, optimizing productivity, and enabling data‑driven decisions that support both near‑term performance and long‑term enterprise value creation.

Duties and Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Business Partnership
  • Serve as a core member of the Senior Management Team, influencing strategic decisions and operational priorities.
  • Lead and develop a team of controllers, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Act as a financial advisor to senior operations leaders, providing insights that drive cost optimization, productivity, and profitability.
  • Collaborate with Area Management, Central Finance, engineer team, aviation team and Regional Finance to align financial strategies with global objectives.
  • Provide weekly presentations to main stakeholders – insights on productivity / FTEs / cost per week.
Financial Planning, Analysis & Reporting
  • Own the end‑to‑end financial planning cycle, including annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting, and long‑range planning.
  • Develop and maintain advanced financial models to support scenario planning, investment analysis, and performance tracking.
  • Deliver executive‑level reporting packages, including P&L, cost center performance, and operational KPIs.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting to internal and external stakeholders, including DHL Group and regulatory bodies.
  • Produce staff cost deep dive reports – FTEs/Hours weekly control.
  • Maintain productivity dashboards – PPH / CpP / cost per FTE / daily volume.
Operational Controlling & Performance Management
  • Integrate financial and operational data to identify performance gaps and recommend corrective actions.
  • Conduct deep‑dive analyses into cost drivers across Field Operations, Linehaul, Ground Handling, and Gateways.
  • Support cross‑functional initiatives to improve operational productivity, reduce waste, and enhance service quality.
  • Monitor and report environmental performance metrics in alignment with DHL's ESG strategy.
Capital Projects & Investment Oversight
  • Elaborate BCA Hub’s (Business Case Analysis).
  • Evaluate and influence capital investment decisions, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and ROI expectations.
  • Track capital project development, ensuring budget adherence and timely execution.
  • Conduct financial due diligence and post‑investment reviews to assess impact and inform future planning.
  • Manage CAPEX budget & forecast.
Governance, Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure financial transactions are accurately recorded and compliant with internal controls, IFRS, and DHL Group policies.
  • Support internal and external audits, providing documentation and process transparency.
  • Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and systems that enhance control and efficiency.
Minimum Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, engineering, actuarial science, or related discipline.
  • MBA, CPA, or equivalent advanced certification strongly preferred.
Experience
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in financial planning, analysis, and operational controlling.
  • Proven success in leading finance teams within complex, matrixed organizations.
  • Experience in logistics, transportation, or service industries preferred.
Skills
  • Executive‑level analytical, strategic, and financial leadership, with the ability to diagnose complex issues, drive enterprise‑wide insights, and shape long‑term operational and financial strategies.
  • Mastery of digital finance tools and enterprise systems, including SAP, CREST, Kronos, advanced Excel (Power Query, automation), Power BI, Crest, and Kronos, enabling high‑precision modeling, productivity engineering, and scalable financial processes.
