Description:
This position will assist in driving continuous improvement of paper operations and efficient production within all areas of the paper system (E1, E3, & E4). The role will primarily be involved in troubleshooting issues across all machine lines; acting as an additional resource to expedite troubleshooting efforts where the need is greatest. Responsibilities also include working on cost‑reduction initiatives, developing training materials and troubleshooting documents, coaching crew members on skills and knowledge, streamlining the OJT process, building bench strength by mentoring paper area leaders, acting as production lead on capital projects, and temporarily back‑filling for open coordinator positions when needed.
Accountabilities
- Fully support the mill safety programs.
- Implement and lead area improvements following Billerud's Operational Excellence model.
- Ensure coordination across Business Unit, Operations, and Supply Chain.
- Convert the Business Plan into a daily operations plan.
- Provide technical expertise in daily operations, assisting operators in resolving gaps between production and the plan.
- Analyze and allocate production losses.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Have a thorough understanding of unit operations, process equipment, and technology.
- Possess in‑depth knowledge of plant operations, maintenance constraints, production commitments, costs, margins, capital projects, small projects, and turnarounds.
- Use relevant information and data to determine the best course of action within business‑required time frames.
- Apply lean manufacturing statistical tools.
- Be competent with Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SAP, Proficy, PI, Optivision, PARCview, G3
PTM, Mini Tab, and related software.
Required Experience and
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in pulp paper science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 7+ years of related paper, operational, or manufacturing/industrial experience.
- Proven experience with leadership behaviors:
Leading and advocating change, drive for results, communication, managerial courage, building effective teams, and managing through systems.
Required Skills:
- Ability to give encouragement, guidance, and direction to improve performance.
- Ability to listen generously and practice open advocacy.
- Utilize data to determine best actions within business‑required time frames.
- Interact effectively with all personnel levels, both union and management.
- Motivate and direct supervised personnel and develop organizational talent.
