Salary: $15.49 - $18.22 per hour; FTE
SummaryFull-time/Part-time (Part-Time) Position. The primary responsibility of this temporary position is to provide Supplemental Instruction for General Chemistry students at the Bay College Escanaba campus.
Minimum Qualifications- Demonstrated competence (at least an A-) in CHEM 110, General Chemistry 1 or comparable course.
- Completed the equivalent of two years of college coursework.
- Strong foundation in chemistry.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Tutoring experience.
- BS/BA in chemistry or related field.
- Experience in Supplemental Instruction.
- Teaching experience.
Hours per week: 9 (Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:00 AM – 1:30 PM ET).
Job Duties- Attend training prior to the start of the semester.
- Attend all scheduled class sessions.
- Plan for each SI session held.
- Hold two one‑hour SI sessions each week.
- Hold three office hours throughout the week to enhance SI session planning and provide services to students.
- Meet with the course instructor weekly to ensure accuracy and relevance of the SI session material.
- Meet with the SI Manager weekly during the semester to assess and enhance the effectiveness of the SI sessions through continuous improvement protocols.
- Take notes and complete all assignments and readings for the course.
- Advertise SI to students.
- Take attendance at each SI session and report weekly attendance to the instructor and semester attendance to the SI Manager.
- Utilize session planning forms to prepare organized, effective SI sessions.
- Create a comfortable and supportive learning environment during the SI sessions.
- Teach study skills and use collaborative learning techniques to help students master course material.
- Administer and record data for SI evaluation surveys.
- Mentor and advise students on ancillary topics such as referring them to other needed support services available within the college.
- Attend regular training sessions provided by college staff.
- Provide services to students utilizing the Student Success Center during office hours.
- Any other duties as assigned.
