Position Details

Location:
Escanaba Campus, Bay College
The primary responsibility of this temporary position is to provide Supplemental Instruction (SI) for Anatomy & Physiology students at the Bay College Escanaba campus. SI is an international, evidence‑based academic support program that facilitates study sessions, promotes active learning, and improves student performance.
Qualifications- Demonstrated competence (at least an A‑) in BIOL 213, Anatomy & Physiology or an equivalent course.
- Completed the equivalent of two years of college coursework.
- Strong foundation in biology.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Tutoring experience.
- BS/BA in biology, nursing, or a related field.
- Experience in Supplemental Instruction.
- Teaching experience.
- Attend training prior to semester start.
- Attend all scheduled class sessions and SI sessions.
- Plan each SI session and maintain organized, effective session materials.
- Hold two one‑hour SI sessions each week, plus two office hours for additional student support.
- Meet weekly with the course instructor to ensure SI material accuracy and relevance.
- Meet weekly with the SI Manager to assess and improve SI effectiveness.
- Complete all required readings and take notes for the course.
- Promote SI to students and maintain student engagement.
- Take attendance for each SI session and report weekly attendance to the instructor and semester attendance to the SI Manager.
- Use session planning forms to prepare organized, effective SI sessions.
- Create a comfortable and supportive learning environment.
- Teach study skills and collaborative learning techniques to help students master course material.
- Administer and record data for SI evaluation surveys.
- Mentor and advise students on ancillary topics, including referrals to additional support services.
- Attend regular training sessions provided by college staff.
- Provide services to students via the Student Success Center during office hours.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Months per year: 8
Hours worked per week: 15
Work days:
Thursdays, 1:00–2:50 p.m.;
Fridays, 8:00 a.m.–3:50 p.m.
Works under the general supervision of the Academic Success Manager.
