Position Title
Life Sciences Instructor
Job SummaryThe Life Sciences Instructor is responsible for teaching life sciences courses at Bay de Noc Community College primarily at the Escanaba campus. The position involves teaching human biology, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, and pathophysiology for students in nursing, life sciences, and related pre‑health fields. This position may also instruct general education biology and chemistry courses for non‑STEM majors. Opportunities to teach additional courses may occur.
In addition, the faculty member has various responsibilities related to professional development, curriculum development, student advising and success, as well as activities that support the College and math/science division operational success. This is a full‑time, tenure track position.
- Master’s degree or higher (or 18 graduate level credits) in Biology or Biology‑related field
- Post‑secondary teaching experience in biology
- Online teaching experience
- Commitment to quality instruction in a learner‑centered environment with the goal of consistently improving student success
- Commitment to the community college mission and philosophy
- Ability to provide inclusive and accessible teaching and learning approaches for diverse student populations
- Demonstrated skill in effective written and oral communications
- Demonstrated literacy in information technology and computer use
- Willingness to learn and implement new teaching strategies as needed to enhance student success
- Commitment to value, respect, and provide an equitable learning experience in an inclusive, welcoming environment; standing against discrimination or harassment to educate all students regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, veteran or military status, or other protected status.
- Ph.D. in Biology or Biology‑related field
- Experience teaching at a community college
- Experience teaching in a learning management system
- Online teaching certification
- Use of evidence‑based teaching practices related to active and collaborative learning, critical thinking, and critical literacy and information skills
- Experience with learning outcomes assessment
Fall and Winter semesters (August - May) with the opportunity to teach summer courses.
Hours Worked per WeekA full‑time faculty workload of 15 contact hours represents a standard full‑time commitment. Additional time is required for preparation, grading, student support, and service, bringing the total workload to approximately 40 hours per week on average.
