Job Summary / Basic Function

The responsibility of this temporary position is to provide assistance to students enrolled in the composition courses, with a primary focus on corequisite courses. This position will be providing support in and out of the classroom, as needed by students and the instructor.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Demonstrated competence (at least an A-) in ENGL 101, Rhetoric & Composition or a comparable course.
  • Completed the equivalent of two years of college coursework.
  • Strong foundation in reading and writing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Prior experience with teaching or tutoring.
  • Candidate must be committed to student retention and success and display exceptional interpersonal and team‑working skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Arts in English or related field.
  • Two years’ experience working at the college level.
Job Duties
  • Collaborate with faculty to help students meet learning outcomes.
  • Provide academic support for students who are having difficulty meeting the learning outcomes of the composition courses.
  • Provide individual and group tutoring and mentoring to composition students.
  • Recognize and respond to students according to their varying learning needs and use innovative strategies to assist them in parsing and applying subject matter.
  • Maintain and provide data on students assisted, time spent, and type of assistance provided to supervisor and College Readiness Coordinator.
  • Serve as resource for composition students who are at risk and ensure that they are provided the necessary assistance.
  • Attend composition courses as requested by the faculty to ensure consistency of teaching methods and learning outcomes.
  • Hold office hours / open support time in the HUB.
  • Any other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule

Months per year: 8

Hours worked per week: 5 hours per week.

Office hours are determined in collaboration with supervisor.

Works under the general supervision of the Academic Success Manager.
