Job Summary/Basic Function

The primary responsibility is the instruction of practical and/or associate degree nursing students in theory, lab, and clinical settings, which requires teaching a combination of courses relatedto pharmacology, fundamentals, geriatrics, and medical-surgical nursing. In addition, the faculty member has various responsibilities related to professional development, curriculum development, student advising and success, as well as activities that support the College and allied health division operational success.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in nursing
  • Current Michigan Registered Nursing licensure or eligibility for Michigan licensure
  • Two years’ full-time successful work experience in registered nursing
  • Ability to assist nursing students in the clinic with the delivery of patient care
  • Clinical competency in specialty area
  • Basic life support certification
  • Commitment to quality instruction in a learner-centered environment with the goal of consistently improving student success
  • Commitment to the community college mission and philosophy, andto practical and associate degree nursing
  • Ability to provide inclusive and accessible teaching and learning approaches for diverse student populations
  • Demonstrated skill in effective written and oral communications
  • Demonstrated literacy in information technology and compute ruse
  • Willingness to learn and implement new teaching strategies asneeded to enhance student success
  • Commitment to value, respect, and provide an equitable learning experience in an inclusive, welcoming environment; standing against discrimination or harassment to educate all students regardless ofrace, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation,gender identity, age, disability, veteran or military status, orother protected status
Preferred Qualifications
  • Clinical competence in several areas of nursing, such asmedical-surgical, obstetrics, pediatrics, community health, home nursing, or geriatrics
  • Post-secondary teaching experience, especially teaching practical and associate degree nursing students
  • Successful experience working with at-risk students
  • Familiarity with active and collaborative learning strategies,teaching of critical thinking, and essential skills of literacy
  • Willingness to learn and implement new teaching strategies related to active learning
  • Willingness and ability to travel to placement sites
  • Flexibility and creativity in relation to the changing role ofnurses today
  • Willingness to travel to attend meetings
Months Per Year
Fall and Winter semesters (August - May) with the opportunity toteach summer courses.

Hours Worked Per Week
A full-time faculty workload of 15 contact hours represents astandard full-time commitment. Additional time is required for preparation, grading, student support, and service, bringing thetotal workload to approximately 40 hours per week on average.
