The Psychology Instructor is responsible for teaching Psychology courses at Bay de Noc Community College primarily at the Escanaba campus. The focus is teaching introductory psychology and other psychology classes, including developmental psychology, social psychology, abnormal psychology, and educational psychology. Opportunities exist to teach psychology in local high schools, online, and first-year experience courses.
In addition, the faculty member has responsibilities related to professional development, curriculum development, student advising and success, and activities that support the College and the Social and Behavioral Sciences division operational success. This is a full-time, tenure-track position.
Minimum Qualifications- Master’s degree or higher (or 18 graduate level credits) in psychology
- Post-secondary teaching experience in psychology
- Online teaching experience
- Commitment to quality instruction in a learner-centered environment with the goal of consistently improving student success

- Ability to provide inclusive and accessible teaching and learning approaches for diverse student populations
- Demonstrated skill in effective written and oral communication
- Demonstrated literacy in information technology and computer use
- Willingness to learn and implement new teaching strategies as needed to enhance student success

- Ph.D. in Psychology or Psy.
D. or Ed.D. - Course work in education
- Experience teaching at a community college
- Experience and interest in teaching college psychology courses at local high schools
- Experience teaching in a learning management system
- Online teaching certification
- Successful experience working with high-school age students
- Use of evidence-based teaching practices related to active and collaborative learning, critical thinking, and critical literacy and information skills
- Experience with learning outcomes assessment
Fall and Winter semesters (August - May) with the opportunity to teach summer courses.
Hours Worked Per WeekA full-time faculty workload of 15 contact hours represents a standard full-time commitment. Additional time is required for preparation, grading, student support, and service, bringing the total workload to approximately 40 hours per week on average.

Job DutiesInstruct psychology courses at the Bay College Escanaba campus. Opportunities to teach psychology at local high schools, online, and first-year experience classes may occur.
Facilitate student learning through the following activities:
- Develop course syllabi that share with students the expectations, standards, policies, and learning outcomes and objectives of the course
- Actively engage with students, fostering retention and success
- Contribute to the development and delivery of assessments of course, program, and institutional learning outcomes
- Use evidence-based pedagogical practices focused on student learning
- Provide regular and substantive interaction and feedback to facilitate student belonging, engagement, and learning
