Job Description

Track Maintainers are responsible for the daily maintenance of the rail infrastructure at the customer site. The Track Maintainer is responsible for ensuring the rail line is maintained in accordance to the established standards and that the employees are supported in carrying out their daily activities.

Role & Responsibilities
  • Coordinate daily work projects and job briefings.
  • Conduct track / switch inspections and perform general repairs / maintenance as required by using various hand tools and operating a range of track construction equipment as a team.
  • Perform the cleaning and maintenance of all crossings and flange ways; coordinate snow clearing and removal programs.
  • Ensure regular maintenance of all tools and small machines is completed and equipment is kept in good working order.
  • Conduct job hazard analysis, report unsafe working conditions, and ensure hazards are repaired or restricted immediately.
  • Assist site manager and the customer in the development of short, and long-term goals and objectives for the site infrastructure.
  • Be a leader in safe work practices; responsible for the mentoring of employees in all aspects of safe operations.
  • Lead all safety initiatives and perform efficiency tests.
  • Builds and maintains positive and healthy relationships with a strong team atmosphere.
  • Coordinate the delivery of training and the developmental requirements related to the department; provide ongoing mentorship to the team.
  • Ensure all employees are current with Cando's best practice documents, policies, and guidelines.
Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities
  • Ability to maintain a safe working environment and provide solutions to improve safety.
  • Demonstrated initiative to work with others to foster a respectful workplace and creates a work environment that is open to maintaining a positive relationship.
  • Ability to read and write general documentation including safety briefings, policy or procedure manuals, and bulletins.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with people of all backgrounds and levels of comprehension.
  • Extensive knowledge of equipment, standard operating practices and regulations governing FRA guidelines relating to Track Maintenance.
  • Skilled and knowledgeable in the appropriate inspection, and maintenance / repair techniques required to ensure the rail line is safe for daily operation and in compliance with all required standards.
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Knowledge with technology and computer systems with a willingness to learn software programs as they are introduced.
  • Ability to work outside general work hours in an emergency situation; work takes place in all weather conditions.
Education & Experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in track construction and/or track maintenance.
  • Minimum of two (2) years in a supervisory or leadership position.
  • Background in engineering, design and construction is preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude is an asset.
  • Valid driver's license, FRA certification, TIGS (or the ability to obtain and maintain)
