Accountant, Financial Reporting, Accounts Receivable​/ Collections

Overview

Sphere Mechanical Corp is looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support our growing mechanical HVAC company in Escondido, CA. This role will assist with general ledger accounting, job cost tracking, month-end close, and financial reporting, while working closely with project managers and operations. The ideal candidate will have a background in construction accounting and experience working in a contractor or project-based environment.

• Make sure accounts payable/accounts receivable are processed efficiently
• Oversee payroll so employees are paid accurately and in a timely manner
• Ensure all books reconcile with bank statements and prepare financial statements
• Bookkeeping:
  Enter data, maintain records and produce financial reports
• Verify that transactions are recorded in the correct daybook, suppliers ledger, customer ledger, and general ledger
• Maintain the general ledger and assist with the month-end close and reconciliations
• Track job costs and support WIP reporting
• Prepare financial reports and journal entries
• Perform full-cycle accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
• Assist with project financial analysis and forecasting
• Prepare and manage preliminary notices
• Prepare, collect, and track conditional and unconditional lien waivers and releases for subcontractors and suppliers
• Update Work in Progress (WIP) reports with expected payments

• Worked previously with basic accounting systems, Quick Books, and Excel
• Exceptional knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
• Must exhibit exemplary problem-solving, communication, and time management skills
• At least 2 years of work experience at an accounting firm or as a cost accountant, management accountant, bookkeeper, or related position
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (or equivalent experience)
• 5-7 years of experience in full-cycle construction AP/AR required
• Strong proficiency using SAGE 100/Paperless
• Experience with WIP reporting, job costing, and construction financials
• Knowledge of lien releases, subcontractor compliance, and construction billing is a plus
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
