A growing construction organization in San Marcos, CA is seeking an experienced Construction Accounting Manager for a direct hire opportunity. This is a high-impact accounting leadership role for a hands‑on professional who can take ownership of the full accounting function while supporting day-to-day financial operations.

Key Responsibilities- Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and related HR functions.
- Prepare customer billing, monitor collections, and follow up on past-due accounts.
- Manage WIP reporting, job costing, project financial reporting, general ledger activity, monthly reconciliations, and escrow accounts.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Coordinate year-end close, tax preparation, quarterly financials, banking, bonding, insurance, and workers’ compensation accounting matters.
- Oversee certified payroll, prevailing wage compliance, subcontractor insurance compliance, contractor registrations, renewals, prequalification documents, and bonding requests.

San Marcos, CA. - Salary: $85,000 to $120,000 per year, depending on experience.

- Manage WIP reporting, job costing, financial statements, reconciliations, and project accounting.
- Oversee certified payroll, prevailing wage requirements, billing, collections, and compliance-related accounting.
- Provide financial reporting, analysis, and accounting support directly to ownership.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong construction accounting experience is required.
- Foundation for Construction Software experience is required.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial statement preparation.
- Experience with WIP reporting and job costing.
- Knowledge of certified payroll and prevailing wage requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Ability to work with outside CPAs, banks, bonding companies, and insurance providers.
- Strong organizational, communication, deadline-management, and problem‑solving skills.
- Hands‑on leadership style with excellent attention to detail.
- Stable employment history and demonstrated longevity preferred.
- General engineering contractor experience or similar construction industry experience.
- Experience managing accounting and administrative personnel.
- Experience coordinating insurance renewals, audits, subcontractor compliance, bonding requests, and prequalification documents.
- Prior experience serving as a trusted accounting partner to ownership or executive leadership.
