Math Tutor
Under the direct supervision of the Site Supervisor, the Tutor will provide classroom instruction, assistance and tutoring to students in the after-school program and will lead engaging culturally rich academic activities. We are looking for a patient, engaging, and knowledgeable Math Tutor to support middle school students (grades 6–8) in building confidence and skills in mathematics. The tutor will help students understand core math concepts, complete homework, and prepare for quizzes and exams, while fostering a positive attitude toward learning.
Tutors will also be responsible for working with student's teachers to gain knowledge on what material to cover during the after school program.
Essential duties and responsibilities include supervising members in program area, demonstrating positive values and ethical behavior, leading organized learning activities, participating as an active team member, developing culturally relevant daily lesson plans, differentiating lessons and activities, coordinating program services, planning and leading programs, setting up and cleaning up program materials, ensuring equipment safety, maintaining attendance records, performing janitorial duties, displaying enthusiasm, providing small-group tutoring, developing tailored lesson plans, supporting students with homework and study strategies, explaining concepts clearly, tracking student progress, encouraging critical thinking, creating a supportive learning environment, and performing other duties as necessary.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include being at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED, having a minimum of 48 units of college curriculum or completion of the Classroom Assistant Proficiency Exam, possessing two years' experience working directly with school aged youth, having experience using communication tools like Zoom and Skype, planning and implementing quality programs for youth, supervising a positive learning environment, proficient computer skills, responding to emergency and disciplinary situations, effectively communicating with youth, parents, staff, volunteers, and community partners, obtaining CPR and First Aid Certifications within 30 days of hire, and being able to be active and on your feet for a minimum of five hours each day.
Safety and wellness responsibilities include ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment, being proactive in identifying and reporting safety concerns, participating in safety drills, contributing to risk assessment and emergency preparedness efforts, and contributing to the improvement of Club safety and wellness policies.
Special conditions of employment include successful completion of pre-employment background check, maintaining compliance with the organization's drug-free workplace policy, maintaining a clear TB test as required by school district, obtaining CPR & First Aid Certification, and completing 48+ college units.
