Special Education Teacher – SPA Social Emotional Academic Support (SEAS) Program

The San Diego County Office of Education is recruiting for a Special Education Teacher – SPA Social Emotional Academic Support (SEAS) Program for San Pasqual Academy of the Special Education department of the Student Services and Programs division. The current vacancy will be supporting students at the middle school grade level. Under the general direction of an assigned administrator, the Special Education Teacher – SPA Social Emotional Academic Support (SEAS) Program will serve students with various disabilities;

will plan, develop and implement individualized education plans; conduct student assessments, provide consultation to staff and parents, and participate in IEP meetings in support of students in alternative education settings.

The San Pasqual Academy (SPA) campus provides a co-educational residential high school program developed as a nurturing and supportive alternative placement for San Diego County's foster youth in Escondido, California. Located on 238 acres in the rural San Pasqual Valley, SPA is equipped with all the amenities of a private high school, including classrooms, an auditorium, library, gym, and cafeteria. On-grounds sports and activities include basketball, weightlifting, swimming, softball, football.

This position requires the following Education and Experience and Certificates, Licenses, Credentials:

Education and Experience:

Education:

A bachelor's degree in special education or related field preferred; and,

Experience:

Experience in the development and writing of Individualized Education Plans (IEP), assessment procedures, and adherence to federal and state regulations for students with disabilities. Experience working with students with significant behavior challenges is preferred.

OR

Equivalency: A combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in special education preferred; and experience in the development and writing of Individualized Education Plans (IEP), assessment procedures, and adherence to federal and state regulations for students with disabilities. Experience working with students with significant behavior challenges is preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Credentials:

  • California Education Specialist credential with a Mild/Moderate emphasis
  • English learner authorization (CLAD or equivalent document)
  • CPR and First Aid certification is highly desirable

  • Two (2) Letters of Recommendation dated within the last year
  • Copy of valid California Education Specialist credential with a Mild/Moderate Support Needs emphasis as issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing
  • Copy of valid California English learner authorization (CLAD or equivalent document)
  • Copy of transcripts verifying bachelor's degree (or higher)
  • Copy of valid CPR and First Aid certification (if applicable)
  • Any certifications you would like considered
