Fire Protection Engineer

Mead & Hunt is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Building Engineering team as a Fire Protection Engineer. This exciting opportunity is available at the following office locations:

San Diego, CA;
Scottsdale, AZ;
Dallas, TX; and Bloomington, MN. Additionally, the position offers a flexible hybrid work schedule, requiring at least three days per week on-site.

• Leading the fire protection design of multiple projects of various sizes.
• Preparing reports and studies.
• Selecting, specifying, and estimating costs of fire protection system equipment and components.
• Performing calculations as required.
• Conducting periodic construction site inspections.
• Supervises staff on project teams.
• Other tasks as assigned.

Entrance onto military bases is an essential function of this position; candidates must be able to pass federal, state, and/or local agency background checks. A valid driver's license and approximately up to 25% travel will be required.

• A bachelor's degree (or higher) in fire protection or mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university.
• At least six years of relevant plumbing engineering experience.
• PE license in any state with the ability to obtain in additional states.

• Leading fire protection design of complex projects including
  • fire suppression / sprinkler, fire alarm and life safety building analysis.
• Performing calculations for system layout and sizing.
• Using Revit to create bid document drawings.
• Designing systems for Federal Government projects.
• Fire protection and building codes.
• NICET III or IV certification for Water Based System Layout and Fire Alarm from the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies is preferred.
• Experienced or familiarity with generative AI-driven tools, platforms, or systems (e.g. Microsoft Copilot, Chat GPT, Claude, Gemini) to enhance productivity, automate tasks, and reduce errors.
