Position: Engineering Technician VI (Hydraulics)

THOR Solutions is actively seeking an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN VI (Hydraulics) with U.S. Navy shipboard experience to provide full-time support for U.S. Naval shipboard auxiliary equipment at the Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC) in San Diego, CA. In this role, you will be part of a waterfront team that provides direct engineering and technical support to the U.S. Navy Pacific Fleet, helping keep shipboard systems reliable and mission-ready.

Working alongside Navy personnel aboard ships and at regional maintenance facilities, you will apply your technical expertise to troubleshoot equipment, support maintenance and assessments, and train Ship's Force to improve Fleet self-sufficiency and readiness. This is an opportunity to contribute to a high-impact mission that directly supports the safety and combat readiness of our Fleet.
This position is contingent upon contract award, anticipated for February 2027.

Typical Responsibilities:

The candidate's responsibilities include (but are not limited to) performing or supporting the following actions:

  • Provide Full-Time Onsite Support as well as Surge Support as tasked for the following Code 254 cognizant equipment.
  • Serve as a senior Subject Matter Expert (SME) and lead for assessment teams and Fleet Technical Assistance teams on-site or via distance support as required, to include engineering/technical evaluations, equipment functional checks, troubleshooting, test, analysis, and equipment repairs as tasked.
  • Conduct pre-job briefings and report equipment readiness status.
  • Conduct Assessments, Inspections, and Grooms determining equipment condition and out of specification settings; observe operation of the equipment by ship's force to witness the full range of performance, when possible; utilize appropriate measuring equipment to obtain data for evaluation; evaluate findings and make adjustments & repairs to the maximum extent possible during the time available.
  • Provide Onboard Maintenance Training (OBMT) to Ship's Force technicians in the operation, repair, and maintenance. Perform/provide support during shipboard auxiliary systems tasking including TSRA, INSURV and Tech Assist events.
  • Analyze and review inspection data to determine source of fault, and recommend repair, replacement, or other corrective action.
  • Suggest equipment engineering changes toward improving quality and reliability and to facilitate installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Assist with the preparation and adjudication of Departures from Specifications (DFS), Engineering Service Requests (ESRs), and review of work items/process control procedures (PCPs) when required, including development of risk assessment.
  • Report findings/discrepancies as required to the designated Team Leader and/or Branch Head of SWRMC Code 254 via Material Assessment Form (MAF), TAAS-Info, debrief and/or Technical Assistance Visit Report (TAVR).
Location:

Full time onsite at the SWRMC in San Diego, CA.

Typical Physical Activity:

Mix of desk/computer work in an office environment and visits to waterfront/shipboard environments. May involve: repetitive motion, traversing shipboard environments (e.g. confined spaces, ladders, hatches), or vision..

Anticipated Travel:

This position involves up to 10% travel, including travel to overseas/OCONUS locations.

Typical Pay Range:

The anticipated pay for this position in the identified location(s) is $48.13/hour. Actual compensation offered will be based upon individual factors including education, qualifications, and experience. This position is covered under the Service Contract Act (SCA) and will additionally receive $5.09/hour in "health and welfare" benefits.

Existing SECRET Security

Clearance Required:

This position requires an existing active or interim Secret security clearance prior to hire. Only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance; therefore, only current U.S. citizens will be considered for this position. A candidate without a clearance but with highly relevant experience may be considered, but still must obtain a clearance prior to hire.
