Overview
THOR Solutions is actively seeking a mid-level Data Engineer/Analyst to support the U.S. Navy's Readiness and Effectiveness Measuring (REM) program at the Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC) in San Diego, CA
.
The US Navy's REM program is composed of both Ship Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Readiness and Effectiveness Measuring (SHAREM) and Mine Warfare Readiness and Effectiveness Measuring (MIREM). These programs assess the readiness and effectiveness of sensors, systems, weapons, and countermeasures employed by individual and groups of platforms to meet specified objectives in tactically and operationally relevant environments. The Data Engineer/Analyst will support this effort by collecting and cleaning exercise data, and by using existing and new data analysis systems and tools.
An ideal candidate will have prior experience working with data analysis (Python, SQL) in a U.S. Navy environment, as well as familiarity with/certifications to maintain FLANK SPEED IL6 AZURE Privileged Access.
Typical Responsibilities- Maintain and update databases to allow for the rapid reconstruction and analysis of events and exercises.
- Respond to approved data requests to extract relevant data in a presentable manner and provide meaningful analysis.
- Work with exercise technical subject matter experts to improve data collection and analysis methods and processes.
- Maintain and administer the Navy Ship Tracking Reporting and Analysis Tool (NSTRAT) system.
- Troubleshoot issues with NSTRAT and other tools/systems.
- Conduct software engineering and testing functions to develop data analysis tools and event reconstruction.
- Perform database entry, management, and monitor automated back-up.
- Perform database query analysis.
Location:
Full time onsite (no remote or hybrid) at Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC) on Naval Base San Diego (NBSD) in San Diego, CA.
Travel Requirements:
Up to 10% travel is anticipated.
Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve repetitive motion. Limited visits to waterfront/shipboard environments. May involve traversing shipboard environments (e.g., confined spaces, ladders, hatches), speaking or vision.
CompensationTypical Pay Range:
The anticipated pay range for this position in the identified location(s) is $85,000 - $95,000/year. Actual compensation offered will be based upon individual factors including education, qualifications, and experience.
Existing SECRET Security
Clearance Required:
This position requires an existing active or interim Secret security clearance prior to hire. Only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance; therefore, only current U.S. citizens will be considered for this position. An otherwise strongly qualified candidate with highly relevant experience but no current security clearance may be considered, but a security clearance must be obtained prior to hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Existing full or interim DoD SECRET security clearance.
- High school diploma/GED equivalent.
- Five (5) years of recent, relevant professional experience in data analytics, scripting data analysis products, or a related role in program, operations, or analytics fields.
- Strong proficiency with common data tools/systems including Python and Microsoft SQL.
- Proficient with common productivity software, including the Microsoft Office suite.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Hold and maintain certifications/training to maintain FLANK SPEED IL6 AZURE Privileged Access. Certifications may include:
- AZURE Administrator Associate AZ-104, and one of the following to qualify as an Information Assurance Technician (IAT) Level II under DOD 8750:
CompTIA Security+ (Sec+), SSCP, GSEC, GICSP, or CCNA-Security. - Bachelors degree in a relevant technical or business discipline.
- Experience in a US Navy/DoD environment is highly preferred, with familiarity with Navy Flank speed, Microsoft Azure, Navy exercise data collection or REM, and Navy computer networks.
