A Nurse Resident position is a mentored experience to facilitate transition from student to professional nurse. The role involves delivering coordinated nursing care for a patient or an assigned group of patients within an assigned unit and managing day‑to‑day clinical activities. The resident supervises and directs the activities of various levels of assigned nursing and ancillary personnel, exercising professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment.
The resident understands and adheres to the California Nurse Practice Act, the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses, ANA Bill of Rights for Registered Nurses, and the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice for Nurses. The resident speaks and reads English at a sufficient level to perform the essential functions of the position. Knowledge of standard office equipment (calculator, fax, photocopier) and computer software (MS Windows, Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, internet, e‑mail) is required.
Windows computer skills—including keyboarding, mouse use, drop‑down menus, scroll bars, opening folders, copying, and related operations—must be performed upon employment or within the first two weeks.
Additional duties may be assigned. The resident follows Palomar Health rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws and standards and carries out the mission, vision, and quality commitment of Palomar Health.
Job Requirements- Minimum Education: As required by certification and/or licensure
- Preferred Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing or Master’s entry in a School of Nursing approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing
- Minimum Experience: 0–6 months in similar work

- American Heart Association recognized BLS – Healthcare Provider
- ACLS Initial RQI within 30 days of hire
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification within 90 days of hire
