ROLE OVERVIEW and PURPOSE

The Certified Nurse Midwife will oversee the care and giving of direct client services to families in all areas of maternity, newborn, and family planning according to Neighborhood Healthcare policies, procedures, and consulting with providers.
Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm.

Responsibilities
  • Provides medical care and treatment to obstetrical patients under supervision of provider, including instructing patients in prenatal and postnatal health practices
  • Participates in initial examination of obstetrical patients to ensure proper care and treatment is provided, including discussing observed practices with supervising provider to prepare comprehensive care plans to ensure best outcomes
  • Examines patients during pregnancy by using physical findings, laboratory test results, and patient statements to evaluate conditions and ensure progress is normal for patients, including recording physical findings and formulating plans/prognoses for patient conditions
  • Educates patients to use prenatal health and dietary practices
  • Administers stipulated emergency measures and arranges immediate contact with supervising or contracted provider when deviations from standard practice are encountered during pregnancy or delivery
  • Maintains proper and complete medical records according to policies and procedures
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient’s clinical problems and health care needs
  • Submits health care plans and goals of individual patients for periodic review and evaluation by providers
  • Prescribes or recommends drugs or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, inhalations therapy, or related therapeutic procedures
  • Refer patients to providers for consultation or specialized health resources for treatments
  • Impact patient experience by demonstrating courteous and helpful behavior and a commitment to accuracy
  • Share accountability for overall patient health outcomes by working in coordination with care teams
Qualifications Education/Experience
  • Master’s degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program required
  • California Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nursing license in good standing is required
  • Current California DEA licensure is required and is to be maintained as a condition of employment
  • Valid Certified Nurse Midwife certification required
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through an American Heart Association (AHA)-approved source is required upon hire and must be maintained as a condition of employment.
    • AHA-approved courses include an in-person, hands-on skills check with a certified instructor using a mannequin to demonstrate CPR and emergency response techniques.
    • Online-only BLS courses without a live skills check do not meet this requirement.
  • Board Certification (ANCC/AANPCB) or board eligible with certification within 12 months of hire required
