This position is budgeted to start at $17.77 per hour.
This is a non-benefitted, budgeted position limited to 999 hours per fiscal year. This is not a PERS eligible position.
The City of Escondido is hiring responsible, team-oriented Lifeguards in our year-round Aquatics Program. Applicants must be available a minimum of 15 hours a week, with availability Tuesday and Thursday from 6am to noon, highly preferred. Top applicants will be considered with or without a current lifeguarding certificate, as scholarships are available for candidates interested in receiving their Lifeguard certificate through our Lifeguard Academy.
The upcoming Lifeguard Academies are scheduled for the weekend of April 18 & 19, or weekend of May 30 & 31.
Key responsibilities include:- Consistently demonstrate preventive lifeguarding skills.
- Be prepared to activate the Emergency Action Plan, rescue swimmers in distress, and render first aid as needed.
- Provide thorough documentation for necessary forms and reports.
- Enforce pool rules and regulations.
- Maintain positive public relations and be knowledgeable in Community Service programs.
- Report pool repairs as necessary to supervisors.
- Maintain safe and clean conditions in pool and bathroom areas.
- Demonstrate proper cash handling skills and maintain an accurate till.
- Register participants in recreation software.
- Attend in-service trainings.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Be a responsible team member with a background in or passion for aquatics.
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills and a willingness to learn and improve.
- Enjoy working outdoors with the public and be a positive ambassador for our Aquatics program.
- Must be 16 years of age.
- American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification in deep water (not required to apply, but hiring strictly contingent on ability to obtain and maintain this certification).
- American Red Cross lifeguarding certification, or equivalent.
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
- American First Aid for the Public Safety Personnel (Title 22).
- Water Safety Instructor certification, or equivalent.
- Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification.
Certifications are NOT required at time of interview. Current certifications required upon hiring. Scholarships available for applicants interested in receiving their Lifeguard certificate through our Lifeguard Academy.
NOTE:
