SummaryEvaluates pupils referred as potential candidates for Special Education program and presents a report to the local education authority on pupils he/she has evaluated. Tests may include intelligence, achievement, personality, and perceptual motor tests.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Provide direct clinical counseling services.
- Provide information and support to parents of students receiving clinical counseling services.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement services and design behavioral interventions in the classroom setting.
- Participate in IEP Committee meetings, as required.
- Participate in regularly scheduled supervision meetings with district clinical counseling staff.
- Conduct extensive psychological examinations of referred students.
- Participate in case conferences when referred students are involved, or as requested.
- Serve as a resource person concerning learning handicaps for other school personnel.
- Interpret diagnoses to school personnel, other concerned professionals, parents and students.
- Make recommendations on ways to assist a student referred to him for examination.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualification RequirementsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Education and/or Experience- Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology; or Master’s Degree in Social Work.
- Independent license as a clinical psychologist or social worker from the New Mexico Public Education Department.
- Knowledge and familiarity with public education, demonstrated ability to relate to students, parents, and staff.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to queries from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, trigonometry, and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret extensive technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with multiple abstract and concrete variables.
OtherSkills and Abilities
Ability to apply current research and theory to instructional programs; plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, and community. Speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication.
Physical DemandsRequires sitting, walking, standing regularly; close vision required.
Work EnvironmentOccasional quiet to moderate noise. Frequent interaction with the public and staff. Direct responsibility for student safety and well‑being.
