Position: Teacher - Music/Band Director .5 EVHS/ .5 CFVMS

High School Band Director

Be a part of our secondary band team delivering a high-quality music education to students in Espanola Public Schools by directing ensembles and classes where students are inspired to develop their musical vocabulary, skills, and craft as well as a greater appreciation for the musical artform. The High School Band/Music director will work with our existing Middle School band director to recruit students, teach instrumental skills, develop curriculum, program literature and direct ensembles and further grow our secondary band program.

Direct the Concert/Marching Band, Percussion, Winds, Beginning Band, Jazz Band and Music Appreciation at Espanola Valley High School. Marching/Concert Band is team-taught with the middle school director at Carlos

F. Vigil Middle School. The director would also participate in a professional learning committee with the middle school band director. The EVHS band program gives 3-4 formal concerts a year and has been active in regional large group and solo festivals and All-State.  will be the inaugural year of the EVHS marching band.

Education/Training/

Experience:

  • Bachelor of Music Education degree or higher with emphasis in instrumental music.
  • NM Teaching License or equivalent with endorsement in 6-12 Music Education.
  • Student Teaching experience in a high-quality band program preferred
  • High School or Middle School Band Teaching Experience preferred.
  • Experience in Title I schools preferred.

Knowledge/

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of band pedagogy including woodwind, brass and percussion techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of middle and high school band literature.
  • Strong level of musicianship, conducting and rehearsal skills.
  • High level of professionalism, communication, organization and teamwork.
  • Ability to develop excellent rapport with students, parents and other instructional staff.
  • Experience teaching diverse groups of students including Latinx, Native American, African American, LGBTQ etc.

EMPLOYMENT:
